Wow!!! Snyder took a semi-good movie and turned it into an epic one. There is no point in even calling this a Director's Cut. Its an entirely different movie that only shares some of its elements to the one it replaces. Some people call this a darker version of the previous one. I would disagree. Yes, this movie removed the humorous scenes but added an entirely new storyline regarding character development. In this version you get the feeling of a team rather than 6 strangers fighting a common enemy when not being obnoxious to each other. And it works well. If DC had followed this recipe in their previous movies, they would have had a series standing tall against the Marvel Universe. Instead we are constantly treated with pointless remakes of Batman....

BTW....the only mood killer, that otherwise ruined the imaginative approach adopted, was the name of the last superhero. Martian Manhunter????? WTF???

@JudgeDredd Martian Manhunter aka J'onn J'onz is part of DC canon since 1955.

@coffeeninja I do apologize for my ignorance. Having said that, the name J'onn J'onz sounds far more imaginative and creative than the alias Martian Manhunter. And that's from a vanilla point of view.

This remake is better than the first by far. Justice League (2017) was basically Batman making a Craigslist ad and a bunch of strangers showed up not caring about each other, but all decided they hated hammerhead sharks so they agreed to beat the sh*t out of it.
There's more character development in this movie, BUT it's very brief. If you already know Cyborg and Flash's backstory and you've seen the 2017 version, you can just skip to the end fight scene and watch from there. Or, you can wait until their solo movies come out which is long overdue anyway. Everything else is pretty much the same. Stepphenwolf had a major visual upgrade, and a certain alien [SPOILER] makes his appearance.
I especially liked how each character had a time to shine and not one hero hogged the spotlight over the other, however Wonder Woman just dominated in this movie. Her fight scenes were badass and Gal's performance in general was better than the entire Wonder Woman 1984 movie. Still debating which is more impressive? WW or the fact that Cyborg has half a head, but is still rocking waves on his head lol. I just wish DC would stem away from the dark lighting.

@&rew Great review and I believe Dark Lightning has been cancelled. I heard that for Flash's running they had to use the images of another runner!? This may open the door for some good future DC productions and fill the vacuum left by Marvel

This movie is gonna be fantastic. I Refuse to watch it illegally. I urge everyone to watch it on HBO Max if you can afford it. We need a sequel and the more subscriptions the better! If you buy a month of HBO Max you’ll be able to watch Zack Snyder’s Justice League, Kong vs Godzilla and Mortal Kombat all within that month sub.

@TussleBoy That comment is completely irrational and not thought thru.( my opinion only)
dos movies is like TV used to be... FREE!!! Not a highest dollar program that goes immediately into an astronomical amount after your trial period (or what ever they call it ... mush the way phone companies would , and still do to some extent)
this and all other free streaming webs are capitalism in action. The movie company's still gets advertising ( free advertising , always the best kind as they say themselves) supply and demand ... so many people will buy/watch something at a price and more people will watch something at a lower price(free but with the limits imposed on a web site) and the argument for free web streaming sites can go on and on AND ON! This site offers so much more than just the streaming. I use it as a base for all my video watching and have entered every movie I've had interest in along with my personal evaluation/sub categorizing along with news discussion etc.

@TussleBoy You're right, of course. What we need is not the most pirated feature of the year but a continuation of the legend. I salute your principles! This feature will probanly be the final push I needed to go BluRay because a measly 7 G bandwidth on DVD isn't going to cut it with this, as far as I can see from the trailers. It's a symphony of dark colours.

@coffeeninja Yeah, illegally streaming is fine because there's so much cr*p made today. But when something is actually good we should support it by paying for it. Only way to get more good stuff is have it make money.

I will preface this by saying I don't like super hero movies. However, Snyder knocked it out of the park. It seems so different from the original that I had to go back and watch it to compare.

This cut seems to add new depth to the relationships between the characters without sacrificing the charm of the original. I think that this could be a sign that things could be turning around for DC (if they keep up with this quality).

Overall, a good watch and may get me back into the superhero genre if studios put our more like this.

Well, it's a half decent movie now unlike before. It makes more sense, the annoying filters are gone, the big bad being Steppenwolf is done in a way that is actually kinda cool unlike before; the Darkseid scenes help that....

Batman is still portrayed really poorly and has little purpose in the movie however, not a fan of The Flash in this either, and I feel it could have used a LOT more levity it pushes itself to be so pointlessly and needlessly dark still.

It does wrap things up however, and has a much more cohesive plot than before.

I didn't hate this like the original, but while I have my dislikes it has some great action scenes and is at least worth a watch now.

i would rate this movie 1 star and half

How can one really compare it with Avengers movies? I don't get that. DC movies are dark. Even comics are dark. Avengers not so much. The theatrical release was one of the worst movies I have ever seen. This one tries to improve on that. It would have been great if this storyline could continue. But we all know deep down that won't happen.

About this director's cut, it was well 4 hours long! Yes, a lot of improvement was made. Director was able to show the movies as we wanted(almost). I thought acting was good, directing was well good too. if the movie will never release in theater why the screen size was like imax? Did not make any sense at all! Still did a lot of improvement. But the movie could easily be three hours long instead of 4! If you are a fan you will like this version more than the previous version.

I have to say that Synder's vision is way more aligned with the Marvel universe and its heroes than the 2017 movie. I thoroughly enjoyed it. Four hours was a heck of a long movie but worth every minute of it. It was the last hour that made all the difference though. Up until that point much of the movie was the same but when Synder's vision kicked in it was like a rocket going off. The characters got better, the story got better, and if its possible so did the cgi. Gawd, I hope he is in line to do another one and that they give him the budget worthy of his vision. Overall, I recommend taking a peek at this one. It was worth the wait.

Zack Synder's: Justice League - GREAT!

Mar 2021

Kudo's to Zack for a job well done on this long-awaited release. This epic release runs 4 hours so, you better make some time if you want to watch it at one go.

Steppenwolf wants to destroy the earth and see it descend into darkness and he's lost faith in the politicians to do this for him and has taken matters into his own hands. Only the Justice League can stop him and his army from hell but...'Where's Superman?'

The scenes with Wonder Woman are brilliant and way better than Wonder Woman 1984. Jason Momoa as Aquaman rocks, (Willem DeFoe plays Aquaman's dad) The Flash talks and acts like a young Woody Allen, Ben Affleck does a superb job as Batman with some good one-liners and Ray Fisher delivers a great performance as Cyborg.

Some awesome battle scenes throughout the movie which would make it quite exciting on a big screen but not sure if that works if you need to wear the mask for 4 hours indoors in between crunching on popcorn and sipping a soda. (No doubt better at home on a big screen with the occasional 'pause,')

I am a lifelong DC fan. I hate it. I hate Afflect as Batman. Barry Allen looks more pitiable than funny. Wonder woman is bland at best. I am old, this is not my DC. I am not impressionable anymore. So I cannot recommend this movie in good conscience. It does connect well into the upcoming storylines such as Injustice and others. So kudos for that.
Sadly DC needs to get their visual style in order. This movie looks like garbage compared to recent Marvel releases. I get the dark visuals that DC likes, but can we have better colours please ? Its 2021 FFS.
Its an improvement for sure on the theatrical release.

For any impressionable teens or adults with still fresh brains, this is a good starting point to get into DC universe. So for the younger audience, definately recommend.

Wow, what a ride! I was really impressed by the fight scenes especially, I can not even imagine the orchestrated effort that went into making this movie. For me though, the movie was, well, long, very long: I literally grew older watching it. The music was almost always climactic which quickly turned it into annoying noise. Also, the characters really enjoy talking, like a lot of talking... with so much self-entitlement, pompous bravado and self promotion, they might easily have become politicians instead. Still, I completed this four-hour journey. If this was something else, I probably would have quit watching halfway. The CGI was very impressive, fight scenes were seamless, almost like ballet. If the music was not so boisterous, I would give it a 9 out of 10. Overall, very impressive and well worth my time!

The original had some pretty lame scenes in it. Flash and Superman moving people out of the village was Saturday morning cartoon worthy. Dumping that, and extending the battle scenes, made way more sense. The gore factor was elevated over the first and made it, for a fantasy movie, much more believable. Snyder's version was welcome. While the first was a good movie, this is a great movie. Well done!

AWESOME!!! Now THIS is how a real first class movie is made. It makes the earlier version look like just another bunch of disjointed "superhero's" getting together and somehow managing to defeat the evil bad guy, no different than all the rest. All fast action glitter with no substance.

But this version takes the time to lay out the whole story line leading up to the conclusion/ending. Thus giving it WAY more depth and breath than around some 99% of the modern fluff movies, including the earlier version of this one. It makes me wonder what idiots would pass this version over and go release the garbage version instead. If they want to make money, it makes no sense to sell off their costume jewelry while keeping their $$$$ stunning diamond hidden away.

This Zack Snyder's Justice League version has to be one of the best movies ever made.

Wow! After seeing this the first version seems like a cartoon filled with catchphrase dialogue. It is a long haul but it is worth the trip. It would be amazing to see this on a big screen but it would have to be like the old days with an intermission. I would bet that the first version was edited all to hell because of the old Hollywood belief that people will not go to see long movies and even more importantly, they like shorter movies because they can show them more times a day and make more money. Trying to come up with even one negative and the only thing I did not like was the choice of music in one scene with Victor.

Better in all aspects, fleshed out characters and backgrounds, better action, after 4 hours i was ready to watch 4 more because of what was teased in the end. The music choice in some scenes where a bit off in my opinion, and every time an Amazon stepped in, we knew that this was the guy that directed the movie 300. Cool looking movie with no length duration restrictions, liked it allot.

Good time filler. If i hadn't watched the first show i wouldn't really rate it as such. Jos whedon just doesn't do good superheroes justice (see what i did there). I would've liked to see captain marvel in this but we all know what happened there. Having the orifinal team together and hinting at the titans just gave me feelies. Soooo many gems throughout this that I'm sure many of us need multiple viewings. Let's find a different wonder woman next time.

As far as the movie itself goes, Im not a knowledgeable fanatic of Marvel or ZackSnyder or Justice League. So I can't compare it with the non ZackSnyder or other SuperHero story versions. and thats all im qualified to say about that.

I did notice this was an extra long extra intricate "director's cut" Movie. I had to pause and watch in segments - even though i set out to do so, i could not digest it all at once, The experience reminded me why movies are almost always around 2 hrs long, so human beings can digest the story in one sitting. That was the big take away for me.

Other wise IMO its just the usual DigitalFX Block Buster I've now come to always expect on 2021. Maybe 20 years ago it would have seemed special. To be honest I'm getting FX fatigue from damn near every movie now packed with unreal over the top FX. So Lately im far more engaged by mental suspense and drama. But that just my bias. Im sure ZackSnyder fanatics will love this massive work of digital art.

BEST MOVIE EVER. SJL is an absolute masterpiece...This film is everything that a DC fan ever dreamed of . Visually stunning and narratively satisfying from start to finish, it is not just best DCEU film of all time but also one of the best superhero film of all time...Joss whedon should be burned alive for butchering this masterpiece and ruining Snyder's vision in 2017..But true fans loves Snyder's epic vision for DCEU that's why they called out for this film in after whedon's disaster..Zack snyder delivered a perfect superhero film here, filled with some of the best visuals ever seen in a movie, eye popping effects, stunning cinematography, eargasmic soundtrack by junkie XL and breathtaking action scenes ZSJL is everything you ever hoped for and even more then it looks initially..This film proved again that Ben affleck and Henry cavill are best Batman and Superman of all time..Jared Leto as joker steals the show, steppenwolf is monster looking warrior from other world who just wants to invade earth for his own personal reasons, darkseid is an evil tyrant lurking in shadows of different side of universe..This film also works as an origin story for cyborg, he is struggling to find his place in the world torn apart between his human and mechanical identity... Batman became a hero again after spending years in rage and hate ,here he is a hero and leader who is honouring Superman after his death via defending this world, the killer vengeful version from BvS is long gone.. wonder woman is helping humanity and continuing her duty to defend the world.. flash is trying to be a hero who wants to help people and still learning about his powers...aquaman is also struggling between his human life and atlantean heritage as a king, and finally heart and soul of DC Superman...In mos we've seen an alien trying to find his place in the world,in BvS we've seen a conflicted hero who is struggling and finding how to be a hero.but in ZSJL we've seen a true Superman who finally became a hero and ultimate protector of earth .An ideal to strive towards...Even side characters like Lois,Martha,Silas, desaad, martian manhunter, joker got small but meaningful part...At last I just want to say this is the movie we've been waiting for our life....If you don't loved this movie don't call yourself as a DC fan....It's time to restore the snyderverse now because without ZACK SNYDER and a complete JUSTICE LEAGUE TRILOGY DCEU is nothing and will fail soon again...Only a full snyderverse on HBO max can save DC now.... Go watch it and get ready for a lifetime experience... 10/10. A+

It's not terrible. It IS uniformly bland.
There's nothing special here, Avengers is the bar for effects and this is just full of stuff we have seen before.
There is no suspense. Just 4 hours of cliche ridden fodder and pretty average CG. and I just kept wondering, why was this made at all? Is it really just for fans? If so maybe we can expect new cuts of the star wars trilogy.
If a movie costs $70 million dollars in reshoots I wouldn't call them reshoots. That's a modest budget for a remake or an original. It's crazy. Just to see some improvement on a terrible film first time aound. A waste of money really. This reminds me of speilberg tinkering with Close Encounters, or even George Lucas fiddling with the original trilogy.
I can't imagine wanting to sit throught this again. And, yes, 4 hours is ridiculous. Nearly every scene seemed stretched to fill that interminable running time. The only thing that suprised me was a few attempts at humour, something Zack Snyder doesn't really do very well. ...

It's over four hours long, but at least this one is on par with the MCU. It's been awhile since I saw the original but it looks like the many of the fight scenes were remade with better graphics and darker in mood. And Darkseid, well I'm glad that they brought him in now, because he is back to being on par with Thanos.
