this wasn't a bad movie, certainly no thriller, but a scifi-drama, I did like the film, the story, the acting and what not but SPOILER its a rather bleak movie. If your a fan of Felicity Jones and you've been craving to watch her in a film, and you like the body of work of George Clooney and the films he's directed then you'll like this film my only beef with the film was how it ended so watch the film, curious anyone's thoughts and after you've watched the film read the review the World Socialist Website did because it sums up my problems with the film. www.wsws.org/en/articles/2021/01/13/midn -j13.html
I found this film anticlimactic, rather uneventful and heavy on the melodrama. There is very little character development and the movie relies heavily on the weak story line to carry it through. It has a solid enough cast but nothing happens, or rather very little happens. There is almost no back story so as you watch this film all you have are questions from the beginning until the end. Did I like it? No, not really. I found it very boring. Even at the very end when you are hoping for the one thing to happen to make it all worth while you end up disappointed. I can not recommend this one because I feel as though I could have spent my time doing something more worthwhile.
This movie is an absolute waste of time; there is nothing there for anyone. If you love science, of course there is no science here (unless you confuse fantasy for science, a common trait of most people whose only notions come from storytelling) if you love fiction, is an utter incomplete, incoherent work. If you like drama, personal stories, etc. don’t look here either as the characters are mere sketches of something that never connects, nothing sticks together even when they try to give some flimsy line that doesn’t give you any AHA moment, it’s as if someone smoked something and, while high, thought the whole doped trip was a good idea. It’s like seeing two separate bad movies and none has value and their union doesn’t help either. They don’t care to elaborate anything; neither the origin of the main event, what is the middle or what is the end. The characters don’t act their purported roles, some are forgotten midway the movie and there were there just as decoration or reminders of some purported feeling no one is invested in, some are there to offer some movements that can barely be relatable. ... The ending is as illogical, incoherent, empty, lacking on ideas and pseudo-profound as the whole move. The only thing that merits a point is the craft put on the special effects, the only thing redeemable of the whole piece. Read moreLess
this one was not so bad if you follow the story along..it could have been way better like including what actually happened to the earth in the story[SPOILER]assuming it was a virus and nuclear war scenario sound familiar folks?? i think that would have helped to entich the story and give it depth..The beginning was somewhat confusing as to what the situation was starting off but the ending kind of tied things all together for the parties that the story was concerned about..[SPOILER]were there colonies actually on jupiter would have been nice to know what was going on there this could have been a story that could have told a much greater tale but kind of flat lined along the way but its good for a one time watch
OMG...such a yawner. Has George run out? Brutally slow and somewhat unbelievable [spoiler] ice habitat...
If you are bored...you could watch. 30 minutes too long and tedious....pass....
7 out of 10.
Clooney’s adaptation of the book, Good Morning, Midnight, by Lily Brooks is not exactly original in narrative and concept, in fact it is like having a buffet of sci-fi space dramas. However, it does not mean it is without some unique qualities. The film follows Augustine, a terminally ill scientist who looks for ways to warn a group of astronauts not to return to Earth. The story is essentially predictable, moves at a comfortable pace, but has its share of heart-tugging moments, and a not-so-surprising twist at the end. It also has gorgeous set pieces, a fine score by Alexandre Desplat, and moving performances. Clooney is pretty affecting as the man who discovers one of Jupiter’s moons for human habitation, and it is his best roles in a long while. Jones, who usually has a detached aura, is more accessible here as one of the space travelers. Film is not a slam bang actioner but a drama set in space. It has an intriguing premise and is better than similar big movies that brim with existential phoniness.
I'll call it 'worth a one-time watch'. It is however VERY slow without any exciting parts. If you can handle watching "2001 A Space Odyssey" then you can handle this -- they move at about the same pace.
Really disappointed at this, nothing much happens in all honesty and at 122 minutes long its along time to be watching not much.
It's filmed nicely and the space shots are good, it's basically two stories going on at once which fit together at the end.. you will have to watch it to find out.
Would I recommend it.. no not really.
I love Sci fi so have to watch whatever comes out, and after reading a few reviews I knew it wasn't the best. But gave it a go.
Best avoided but not awful, but felt like a waste of time watching it.
@Rogereveryone Thanks for that
