Without regurgitating the nonsense in Iron Man 3, the ten rings were magical rings of power gleaned from the mystical spirit of the dragon realm by the Mandarin. The rings gave the wearer almost unlimited power, making him ageless and invincible. Although originally they were worn on the fingers, the transition to forearm fighting rings of kung-fu was a minor and unimportant difference. I notice they were trying to mend the awful 'mandarin' nonsense from the Iron Man 3 movie to make the transition seamless, however they still fell a little short. I always wonder who exactly comes up with the garbage dialog moments such as the Mandarin casually comparing his frightful identity by comparing it to an orange (mandarin orange). One uses the noun mandarin when you're talking about a powerful member of a government, company, or group. It represents the ruling class in China, and the Mandarin language (as opposed to the Cantonese) was also the language of the elite and ruling class. ...

Whaaaaaat a movie involving Chinese people where there isn't any flying martial arts trash that you see in China movies? That alone deserves a view. Story? Nothing new. Fight scenes? Dude has better moves than Spiderman and that was before he got his rings. Fast, exciting, eye-catching. Has both Mandarin and English speaking parts. Some beautiful CG mythical creatures. Humor. After credits worth waiting for.

WHAT AN AMAZING MOVIE! Finally a Marvel movie with an almost all-Asian cast! The film delivered on every aspect, from family drama, emotions, to ridiculous fight scenes and monsters, it was such a joy to watch! Simu Liu did an incredible job portraying Shang-Chi and so did the rest of the cast in playing their characters. Easily the best movie of 2021 so far and once again, the MCU has given us a very good movie. Hopefully the sequel will be just as good!

Very disappointing I thought
I appreciate it’s an all Asian cast and I’m sure it’s gone down a storm in China but it’s just another Chinese / Hollywood blockbuster that fails to hit the mark for me.
The action scenes were few and far between ( the bus scene was ok ) lots of dialogue in Chinese with sub titles and creatures from Chinese mythology that obviously mean a lot but not to me.
I read the comics as a kid and had high expectations but the comic side kick failed to amuse and the plot was too convoluted.
Sorry as I can see loads of people loved it but 4/10 from me

@rush_2929 Well, now, here’s an interesting situation. Out of curiosity, I’ve looked for YOUR review of this film but surprise surprise, there isn’t one.
Therefore, you’ve read my review, criticised me but failed to actually do what I’ve done, which is watch the film and leave an honest review.
I think this is called Trolling and I can see why it’s universally despised.
Why don’t you write your own review ( if you can string more than a couple of words together ) and I’ll read what you have to say ?
Whatever I do say will be polite and constructive.
Deal ?

Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings pays homage to many martial arts styles and famous action stars from Hong Kong cinema. Namely, Jackie Chan. The acting, scenery, and fight scenes are all A+. A synopsis of the movie is that The Marvel Cinematic Universe movie focuses on Shang-Chi, who was trained in martial arts from a young age to be an assassin by his father. His father happens to be the leader of the Ten Rings, Wenwu (Tony Leung), also known as The Mandarin. The Ten Rings is a terrorist organization seeking to destroy world peace at any means necessary.
No longer being able to live in his father’s shadow of who he wants him to be, Shang-Chi leaves to live a normal life in San Francisco. The movie’s storyline relies upon Shang-Chi not knowing who he is or his purpose. His past comes back to haunt him as Shang-Chi must face his father and the Ten Rings. I highly recommend this movie even though it is an viewer recording for now but, there will be a better quality in a few weeks.

7.5 out of 10.
Marvel's 25th movie about Shang-Chi (Liu), the first genuine Asian superhero in its roster, who must thwart his father (Leung) from annihilating his ancestral village using the powers of ten mystical rings may be formulaic and CGI-heavy like its predecessors, but it has a sense of humor, well-choreographed action sequences, and characters and creatures to root for. It has an appealing cast led by Liu and Leung who plays a multi-layered and emotional complex villain in his first Hollywood movie. The production design, costumes, sets and fight scenes derive inspiration from Jackie Chan and Ip Man movies for an authentic Asian vibe. It is about time for Asian central characters in a comic book flicks that further provide Asian representation in big-ticket productions. The film manages to tell its own story without tied down to the overcrowded MCU. It is highly entertaining and has one of the strongest origin stories in the franchise.

"If you aim at nothing, you hit nothing."

Pretty cool, slightly cliché for China storylines, but also very refreshing. This was definitely a new experience from the usual Chinese movies I have seen. I can only give credit to outside influences, mainly the US for this pleasant surprise. I would watch this if I was you, but don't call it the normal kind of superhero movie that America is used to. This is the most half and half mix of Asian and American styles I have seen in more than a decade. Another epic hero movie to add to the list in my books.

I wouldn’t change a thing , this movie is perfect. A comic magazine coming to life. Full of magic and imagination.
Just loved it! The fight were spectacular , graphics , acting and all !
Must watch :-)

I thought the movie was okay. Lots of action as you would expect from a martial arts movie. I am interested in this retelling of the rings, formerly called Mandarin's Rings. Most of you older folks probably remember him from Iron Man III. The rings were worn on the fingers, not the forearms.

As far as their origin, they were used in some starfaring race's starship as it's energy source.

Although I am a Marvel fan, I am not familiar with the Ten Rings comics so I can not compare the comic to the movie. However, I thought that the movie was great. It had a decent story and the special effects were a nice balance of mystical+magical+modern. I especially liked all the animals, they softened the violence and made the movie more entertaining. The cast was fantastic and the dialogue had just the right amount of witty banter to make me laugh more than once. Overall, I think this was a great movie and I highly recommend taking a peek if you haven't already.

I didn't go into this with any expectations. Lets start with the good. The music, acting, and cinematography were all excellent as expected from a Marvel movie. However the plot is frankly garbage. Its just so frustrating how bad the plot is. Going to be heavy spoilers on why I think this:

This movie was so fire! It made me feel like a young girl again, seeing magic on TV like this. 👍 👍 two thumbs up for disney bringing out their a-game and representing a culture that doesn't get enough time in the spotlight.

I don't normally go in for martial arts movies, but this was Marvel and would tie in with everything else, so I checked it out.
And I was very pleasantly surprised. It was great. Humor, acting, effects, stunts, fighting, etc. all good. There's a bit of everything, from fighting on a moving bus, to on the side of a building, battle sequences, magic, mystical creatures, oh, and a dragon fight. I wasn't expecting that.
Really nothing to complain about here. These movies always require some suspension of disbelief. You kind of know that going in. Just, if you're one of those people who can't tolerate anything slightly fantastical, don't be the jack wagon type who watches something like this anyway and then gives it a poor review. This movie isn't for those people.
If you like fantasy/action/martial arts, you should love this, though.
And I don't think you have to be a martial arts fan to enjoy this, as I'm not and I did.

I have watched this movie 3 times. I wished it had more realistic ploy. But being a kid at heart my kid's and I enjoyed this movie. With art there will always be criticism, I wish those who criticize create something so others can give a viewpoint. Sometimes wholesome criticism will improve audiences participation. I hope these hero/villain type movies never go away we all can use some type of entertainment whether mediocre or great.

I thought I was done with Marvel movies but my cousin forced me to watch this one and boy was I glad. Shang Chi is a breath of fresh air in a world of overpowered super heroes and villains, they managed to keep this movie contained in its own little world and the stakes felt less universal doom and more beginner super hero, I think the cast is very charming especially Awkwafina and Simu Liu who shined in every scene they shared. It's a fun movie to watch with your family I highly recommend it

As a harsh critic of Marvel's comic adaptations,I wanted to see a movie that I hadn't read nearly every comic of. This was a great choice. Actually has a plot, not necessary for the masses, but still holds appeal with me. Great action sequences, drama, backstory. They left plenty of holes in the plot for a sequel, or two. I will be back for them too. [SPOILER]

Finally, a Marvel movie that does not take itself so seriously! This was just fun. Even the little after scene was funny. This is a tip, not a spoiler, you need to watch until the end of the credits or you will miss the Second after scene. I have no previous experience with the Shang-Chi character, for me, the ten rings were all associated with the Mandarin from Iron Man comic books so I have no way to say how close this story is to the original books. This had a great cast, a few of the most revered and respected Chinese actors who have been making great films for decades, and some of the best up-and-coming young actors too. Great CGI, a decent plot, an enjoyable viewing experience.

I don't know man. Marvel movies seem to become more and more cookie cutter as the years go by. None of the characters were even likeable let alone relatable, instead dry cookie cutter personalities to go with another dry and dragged out Marvel movie :(

Finally watched this in HD with subs, LOVED IT!! I've never read the comics but this was entertaining from start to finish. I was really hooked when Xu Wenwu first met Li, I loved the choreography of the fighting style Li was doing in that scene it was truly awesome. Also loved the Asian cast I'm not a big fan of Awkwafina, her voice annoys me but I didn't mind her in this. I love love Michelle Yeoh in these movies her fighting style is always flawless. I liked the storyline him and his sister against their all powerful father. I like that they added Trevor he's funny. This is one that I'll watch again and again for some time.

I actually liked this movie there was a lot of fighting. In the last year I have seen a couple o nice action movies and this was not the best or the worst. I did like the fighting scenes but not much for anything else really. I don't entirely follow all the comic based movies but this was a nice watch maybe even a double watch for me in a few weeks.
