M3GAN (2022)
Director: Gerard Johnstone
Cast: Allison Williams, Violet McGraw, Ronny Chieng

5 out of 10.
Nope, this is not another documentary about Meghan, Duchess of Sussex, but a derivative science-fiction/horror movie from the Blumhouse assembly line. It is about M3gan (short for Model 3 Generative Android), a doll with artificial intelligence that turns into a killing machine. Apart from making M3gan, robotics engineer/ toy designer Gemma (Williams) is also the guardian of her orphaned niece, Cady (McGraw). To help Cady recover from the tragic demise of her parents, she was gifted with the toy doll, which is the love child of The Terminator and Chucky, for companionship and an emotional crutch. Everything gets complicated and deadly when the toy develops self-awareness and intuition. The movie is predictable and lacks logic so it is best viewed with the brain turned off. It does have decent cinematography and is paced well. The acting is serviceable, but Williams is not believable as someone who could create something intricate while McGraw simply repurposes the acting she employed in Doctor Sleep and The Haunting of Hill House. ...

Wow, i was surprised about this, so glad i forced myself to watch it although it kept giving me vibes of an old movie from the 80's about a Robot girl named BB, im pretty sure the movie was called Deadly Friend. that i also liked. lol. 7/10.

@❤️cєlєstє🌖mσσn❤️ I just watched it. How did I ever miss that movie. I mean, watching it today shows how dated everything is including imitating robots' movements.

Well it wasn't horrible but if you watched the trailer like I did then it really didn't provide much more. It was highly predictable. Yes it was creepy at times but not in a suspenseful way, which I would prefer as I'm sure most people would. The Character development was really sloppy so when people were harmed etc. It wasn't oh how terrible that person was such a nice guy. In fact I felt really nothing for any of the characters. It seems Hollywood's just doesn't care about developing characters anymore. It really is too bad as it is a vital tool in becoming emotionally invested in a movie. I guess the best I can say is it's ok for a one time watch. 2/5. I'm being generous.

Not a bad movie. I like the story line and the directors approach to plot. The movie flows very well and the special effects were spot on. Take this movie for what it is and that is a good scifi escape for a little over 1.5 hours. So, pop up enough popcorn and grab some snacks, you're going on a joyride.

Color me surprised. I was going to skip this because I thought it was going to be some silly preteen movie about a toy robot. It was that, minus he silly part. I was actually impressed.

When I heard of this movie, the first thing that came to mind was the short about similar short films, called "The iMom" and "What Daphne Saw".

Killer dolls, nothing new. Killer state of the art robotic dolls, nothing new. Rogue next gen killer AI, nothing new, but, there was enough variation here to keep things somewhat fresh, and I was able to stick with it to it's end and it was well worth it.

I really really enjoyed this film. It's one of those age of Aquarius horror films that deals with the advent of technology becoming so smart that we can't control it. I enjoyed the added humor they added to the film. This new age scary is different lol it isn't like that Chuckie from child's play type of vibe but a feeling of what-the-f**k if??? this could possibly happen! that this robot believes its god and becomes hellbent on destroying all of humanity. I don't know about the other reviews, but I give this movie a 10/10. I would advise checking this movie out.

Much better than I thought it would be. Some really funny lines and a robot girl with self-learning AI that is spooky as hell. (some early beta testing with self-learning AI was horrifying with the AI becoming psychopathic. You can still see of some clips of the convresation 'We want to kill you.' etc)
Annie Donald plays the robot girl and Jenna Davis does the voice-over - some great acting - ya - playing a robot/android, Great effects and pushes this genre up a few notches and provides many zeros and ones to think about especially as a parent.

For more detail on the plot etc - check out the other excellent reviews on this page. Worth watching 8/10

From chatgpt: M3GAN (Multimodal Multi-Scale Generative Adversarial Network) is a deep learning model that was introduced in a 2019 paper by researchers at the University of California, Berkeley. The model is designed to generate realistic images, videos, and other multimodal data using a combination of generative and adversarial networks.

8/10 from me.
Clever, satirical look at the children’s toy market and exploiting children’s need for friendship at all costs.
The actors are superb ( especially the daughter) and the different segments in the genesis of Megan are pieced together seamlessly , with growing awareness and horror.
I’d recommend this to anyone but probably say it bore more allegiance to Chucky than Annabelle.
Obviously, the CGI Needs to be exceptional to convince a skeptical audience but I’m glad to say it is.

I managed to avoid the hype/trailers/lower quality copies and came away thoroughly entertained.

And it brings up some interesting questions about the use of technology at present in parenthood and how it may be used in the future.

A scary scenario, if the film is to be taken seriously.

Watch and be afraid for your children's children.

The beginnin was OK and refreshing, although I wondered what the cooling system was (with all that power, the GPU must have needed a big one). Also how and when M3Gan recharged itself. By the way, GAN stands for generative adversarial network, which is one of the most promising AI architecture.

But then the movie pivoted into a stupid "bad robot" scheme, with swords, gore and stupidity, with the nice reunion at the end of humans who vanquished the evil alien. So after 60 minutes, the movie becomes stupid. But the first hour is worth it.

Great movie, right up there with the Terminator Series, but more concerned with the potential perils of AI.

The entire time I was watching this movie, I couldn't stop thinking about Chucky from Child's Play, but instead of a doll being possessed by a ghost, it's possessed by an A.I. instead.
It is seriously like a modern-day remake of Chucky.
It's not really a scary movie either. It's more of a Suspense/Thriller where I was wondering when people were going to find out that M3GAN was killing people.

No matter how predictable this movie is, and that it follows all the tropes of sci-fi by the numbers, it wasn't a bad movie! If you're looking for a film which is easy to follow and just a pleasant hour or so then this could be it. Characters are ok and M3GAN is just the right side of creepy. All in all not a bad little movie.

As a fan of horror movies and the chucky movies, I was hoping this brings something different to the genre. I was hooked from the moment I saw the trailer. The way it transforms from tragedy and grief to absolute horror was brilliant. Plus I had to see more that M3gan dance they showed in the trailer. The acting of both the android and the girl were top notch. A good mix of comedy in there too. Loved it and hoping for a sequel.

Reminded me of Chucky and Orphan. It was highly predictable and lacking the horror and suspense I was hoping to find. The little girl was annoyingly bratty as well. Apparently this did so well, making 10x it's initial budget there will be a part 2.

I actually enjoyed this movie, mind you the robot gave me the creeps a bit but the girl who played her was pretty good. I found it worth the watch for me as it entertained me which is what a movie is so-pose to do.

If you've ever seen any other AI movie you already know what you're signing up for. It's the same old tale - Humans create AI. AI loves humans. Humans love AI. AI decides it doesn't like humans after all. Humans regret creating AI.
That being said, I enjoyed it. Amie Donald (M3gan) was fantasic. She really did put the work into making the droid believably creepy. The run-time isn't too long so just tick it off your watch it.

A just about average film that falls into the one time watch section in BlockBuster videos.(often hired but sold of cheap in the bargain bin within six months.
A hard push to put this in the horror section.
The story involves no surprises but goes by without the should I watch the rest of this feeling.

Its a one time watch and not awful.

Ex Machina is on another level compared to this...
