This movie was a very fun action packed comedy.
The actors had really good chemistry with each other throughout the film,
even though a lot of shenanigans ensued the plotline was simple enough to follow.
The Gray Man is worth a watch or two if you're really into high octane comedies.🍿
This is a fun actioner, kind of John Wick-y, James Bond-y, and Bourne-y in a lot of ways. The plot is simple but this doesn't detract; we're taken to locations all over Europe, getting into fast-paced road drama and tons of gunplay. Several big-name actors' presence drew me in, and I'm happy to say I enjoyed it.
@YgraineDance hi we posted our reviews within minutes of each other! Definitely that Bond vibe to it and spectacular locations..
@bigsteve Oh yeah, we did! I posted my review, then I read what others said here. Interesting how all of us remarked on the same points and the homage to the genre. I hope there will be more to the tale.
@YgraineDance I heard that this was a pilot for a franchise, and if the Russo Bros produce and direct the next installments it could overtake the Bond franchise. This movie had been floating around for over 10 years! They started it, stopped it - originally Charlize Theron was cast etc - Looks like the time was right and worth the wait!
@bigsteve That's great to hear, Steve. I sure like this better than some of the recent Bond stuff. This, and the next John Wick, will be something to look forward to. (I wasn't sure about Gosling as lead at first, but I thought he captured the character very well!)
Any more Jason Bourne coming...?
@YgraineDance Hi no idea about Bourne but I agree with you - when I heard Gosling I was a little skeptical but he surprised me and brought it home. (the dialog was really funny..) After getting a beating, shot at with a million bullets, his side kick says: 'Are you hurt?' he looks at her and calmly replies, 'My ego is a little bruised.'
Just saw the trailer for John Wick - looks interesting. you take care
@bigsteve Hey Steve, this came into my feed today; this is a YouTuber who does funny fake pitch-meetings for all kinds of movies & shows. I was hoping they'd do this one:
THE GRAY MAN - Russo Brothers do it again! This may replace the Bond Franchise
Before the official release, I read some mixed reviews from the 'professional' Hollywould critics. I saw that as a good sign being they hate Netflix. THIS FILM IS BRILLIANT!
Imagine Guy Ritchie's insanity & humor - Jason Bourne action and vintage James Bond (when Bond movies were fun, entertaining, and mindless.) Ryan Gosling plays '6'*protaganist, Ana De Amaras plays his reluctant sidekick, and Chris Evans plays the psychopath villain 'Lloyd. (Chris's hair and mustache make him look like Freddy Mercury!)
Action is non-stop - great fight scenes, including knives, awesome weapons /high end & some hysterical lines between Gosling and Amaras - they make a great team
The film really has a 'Bond Edge' about it - incredible locations and car/train/plane! action scenes and at times the soundtrack sounds like vintage Bond. (maybe by design to trigger an ancient memory when Bond films were really good?)
You could easily watch this two times and love it. I hope the Russo Bros do another and kick off a franchise. About time we had a really fun action flick with some good writing and humor. ENJOY IT Read moreLess
Good call folks(bigsteve,SerFansAlot,YgraineDance) . This is great! I’d never heard of it till I read your reviews…Thanks.
I was gripped from the start and engaged through to the end. This is a smart production. The plot makes for an intriguing story. The fight scenes are well choreographed. There’s a great cast and interesting characters. And the special effects are excellent. Interestingly, Chris Evans was offered the lead but opted to play the villain…good call. The 6 character is a lot like the originally written Bond. He has no high tech gadgets…just kick ass fighting skills and the intelligence to use whatever is available to his advantage. There’s not a lot of drama between action sequences. I like that but some of you will not. And this is one you can watch again some time later and it will still entertain.
@cbeams Had no idea that Chris Evans was offered the lead and chose the villain? He made a great villain! glad you enjoyed it. cheers
@bigsteve They started this project in 2005! had other lined-up - then delayed and delayed then cvd.. and a new cast which I think are great! Chris plays an incredible villain! great fun
@cbeams I hadn't heard of this pic either, but one day it showed up on my page elsewhere and I read the cast list and said, Yep, I gotta see this. Turned out to be a winner!
I just watched the first three minutes I think the first question should have been; how much am I going to get paid and when.
Hollywood at its finest killing everybody with the biggest gun
Really Good! :)
It's rubbish not worth watching a waste of time then I saw it's a comedy and so never mind that and enjoy.
Great scenery and good SFX. The rest is a obviously fake action packed movie which made me fast forward almost half of it. Dialogs are cheap and the plot is a pick and choose from other movies of the genre. Nothing new, boring and fake to the point I couldn't bare it all along.
If you want action and entertainment this is a good as it gets another masterclass from russo brother yet again the critics got it wrong with movie must watch movie
If ever a movie was made that tried, and succeeded, to include every possible action movie cliché, this one's it. Had there actually been some new ones, if that's even possible, I'd have scored it higher.
All that being said, the movie was enjoyable and watchable. The acting was good; the action was pretty much non-stop; the effects were kinda well done. The acting was pretty much expected, knowing who the actors were, although a couple were so over the top, it made me wonder if the movie was actually a comedy.
It is watchable, and fun, so if you're in the mood for an over the top, cliché ridden, action movie, grab the popcorn and enjoy.
A good, action packed, never a dull moment, spy movie.
Ryan G plays Six, a convict who gets released from prison on the condition that he works for the CIA as an underground agent (meaning he’s not officially official). He gets used for jobs when the CIA does not want to get their hands dirty. The movie starts off by agent Six being told his job is to assassinate someone who is compromising national security- yes, that old line. He soon realizes that he has been sent to kill agent Four, who is also an agent that exchanged prison time for undercover CIA work. The plot just thickens from there as Six goes on the run aided by Dani (the beautiful Ana de Armas) and hunted by Lloyd (played by Chris Evans), a crazy, sociopath former CIA agent.
The one surprise is that Rege-Jean (the heartthrob from Bridgeton) didn’t really stand out in this movie- I didn’t find him to be villainous as much as I did annoying.
Overall, this movie is a decent spy movie with nonstop action. There’s fighting, explosions, violence, car chases and it’s one I would happily watch again. ... Did I mention it gets extra points for having Ryan G as the lead action figure. Read moreLess
Is a correct movie, it doesn’t disappoint. It offers all what it’s supposed to offer, it has the usual tropes for the genre. There are no surprises yet this doesn’t make it boring. The pace is adequate and (thank the universe) it hasn’t neither those unbearable longs scenes that try to make the main characters more human and likeable (yet they offer some background) nor it tries be more than it is: an action, entertaining movie.
The woke levels are set to a minimum: yes, you have a super-strong-nimble woman who beats most men, yet never derails to the usual superwoman level, actors of colors are good and right on their roles and aren’t either tokens or trying to teach you pseudo-social lessons, the movie doesn’t make no fake assumptions of understanding the world, climate or other topics, etc. And in the end and in any case, the message points to the corruption dangers of giving power to governmental secrets organizations, even above the law (or even with laws assent).
Exaggerations and super healing abilities (sarcasm here) are on par with the typical action movie.
Ryan Gosling as the usual heartthrob who you know is a good person only by watching his face is quite correct and Chris Evans makes for a credible disgusting villain. Read moreLess
Good stuff, the genre is getting a little tired.
I very much enjoyed this one. Very good, not great.
Give it a watch. I'm betting you'll like it fine.
Top of the list of one timers.
Nah. From the trailer alone I was over it. It's basically a regular performing stunts of a superhero as if he was Captain America or Black Panther.
If he actually some kind of mutant powers or whatever it would be worth it.
I am in the same page as jammer about including every Hollywood cliche. I agree that acting was very good from all the participants. I am very disappointed from the sound and picture technicians. Especially the sound was awkward bad at the first half of the movie. Many of the chores would answer to some B horror movie in a silent tone just to cover up the need of a sound recording. The keys would sound long and monotonous long periods in every scene. The picture effects quite blurry and monotonous likewise. I found, at first watch, without any pause and play moments, many flaws in the action scenes. The paper knife of the black man in the plane was ridiculously obvious. The first fight engagements with the bodyguard team - possibly high trained agents without sanity controls. This is not the ways a bodyguard team works. My opinion not as professionalist in the Area but from reasonable thoughts. There was a point in the fight in the plane, in circumstances of vacuum suction that were without sanity control and I thought he wasn't sucked but blown into the plane, briefly but enough to disappoint me. ... Can talk more. I think the same film with more detailed work could be presented far better and would leave longer imprint. IMHO this won't leave imprint as it hasn't leave to me. 5/10 Read moreLess
This is a comedy? Thank goodness I read the comments first.
It was a good action flick. Chris Evans played the annoying villain well. Ryan Gosling could easily segue into full time action career. The fight scenes were well done. It goes to show how much a character changes a person because I liked Regé-Jean Page in Bridgerton but he was meh to me in The Gray Man. He just didn't pull off the secretly nefarious vibe. I'd watch a sequel mainly because I want to know where did he and Claire go.
Humor: "The Gray Man Pitch Meeting"
Super easy. Barely an inconvenience.
Awesome film, Gosling never disappoints in action movies, like this one here, I enjoyed from start to the end and the fighting scenes were great of course, story well written and acting from everyone was superb indeed, and I am willing to watch this film one more time because is that good.
This movie was fun. Not great, but also not bad at all. I watched it because it was written by the same guys who wrote Winter Soldier, Avengers Endgame and more. I'm a big fan of theirs, and this movie was smart, and a pretty straight-forward action flick.
Wtf did I just watch?
One of the best movies this year.
It had every thing; action, suspense, comedy, etc.
5/5 for me, Ryan Gosling, good job.
Another assassin movie where everyone goes after the main guy. A rescue mission. Protect the little girl. A maze.
You know what, as generic as it sounds it was a good watch. It got better as it progressed and these kid actors are really good. Not John Wick quality, but still enough action with a little comedic touch. The Tag Heuer Gosling was wearing is 10/10
