โ˜…In 1980, Venice renewed the tradition. Every year,on February 08th to February 25th three million visitors fill the bridges, canals and squares of Venice and turn the city into a giant theater stage.

โ˜…The city itself becomes a living and breathing decoration. Visiting the city during the carnival dates is a marvelous opportunity to reveal the most closely guarded secrets of one of the most unique and magic cities in the world. The mask is an indispensable part of ancient tradition from the 11th century.
โ˜… The original Carnival took place in 1162 to honor one of Venice's victorious battles when the city was known as the Repubblica della Serenissima. It took more than a hundred years before city leaders proclaimed Carnival an official event, and then it grew until its wild peak in the 18th century, when Venice was renowned as the pleasure capital of Europe, producing the likes of the famously hedonistic Casanova. The carnival of Venice is unlike any other carnival in Europe or the whole world.

I walk because, somehow, itโ€™s like reading....... Youโ€™re privy to these lives and conversations that have nothing to do with yours...............Every walk is a sort of crusade.

Why do I walk? I like the rhythm of it, my shadow always a little ahead of me on the pavement. I like being able to stop when I like, to lean against a building and make a note in my journal, or read an email, or send a text message, and for the world to stop while I do it. Walking, paradoxically, allows for the possibility of stillness. Walking is mapping with your feet. It helps you piece a city together, connecting up neighbourhoods that might otherwise have remained discrete entities, different planets bound to each other, sustained yet remote. I like seeing how in fact they blend into one another, I like noticing the boundaries between them. Walking helps me feel at home. Thereโ€™s a small pleasure in seeing how well Iโ€™ve come to know the city through my wanderings on foot, crossing through different neighborhoods of the city, some I used to know quite well, others I may not have seen in a while, like getting reacquainted with someone I once met at a party. Sometimes I walk because I have things on my mind, and walking helps me sort them out. I walk because it confers or restores a feeling of placeness. I walk because, somehow, itโ€™s like reading. Youโ€™re privy to these lives and conversations that have nothing to do with yours, but you can eavesdrop on them. Sometimes itโ€™s overcrowded; sometimes the voices are too loud. But there is always companionship. You are not alone......*You walk in the city side by side with the living and the dead.

@แ—ฉแ–‡แ—ฐแ•ฎแ•ฎK I live in a large city with not a large population. It use to be a thriving port city with lots of factories. I've experienced the hussle and bussle of the city center when I was very young. Those days are gone.
I think it would take an hour or two of walking to go from one neighborhood to another here.

Mariam Petrosyan, is most well known as the author of the award-winning novel The Gray House.Mariam Petrosyan was born in 1969 in Yerevan, the capital of Armenia. After finishing an art college she became a cartoonist at the Studio of Armenfilm. Later she moved to Moscow to work at Soyuzmultfilm, but came back to Yerevan in 1995 and returned to Armenfilm.

๐Ÿ”น The House, which sits overlooked on the outskirts of town, is a boarding school for disabled young adults. Isolated from the Outsides, the residents of the House are enmeshed in a carefully constructed world of unspoken rules and thorny histories. The meandering narrative moves back and forth in time, alternating narrators and tenses, to paint an intricate portrait of a social order that appears ultimately dictated by an unknown force, understood by its inhabitants to be the House itself. When student deaths begin to pile up over the course of the narrative, readers can identify with newcomer Smoker as he tries to understand the mysteries of the House and the source of its power over its inhabitants.....Mariam Petrosyan rips up the rule book, presenting a highly original and energetic novel that will give the reader an insight into a world that is seldom presented.

@แ—ฉแ–‡แ—ฐแ•ฎแ•ฎK I'm a Dark Tower fan and know there are many worlds then these. I love to disappear into books until I don't see the words in front of me anymore, and this one sounds very good. I thought I'd get out of reading for awhile spending a year or so reading then a year or so of painting. I stopped painting when I found I needed glasses and yrs later my brother bought me a Kindle. I've been reading for the past 9 yrs and have recently just stopped. Maybe I just don't have a good book to keep me going.

I get all my Kindle books at b-ok.org/
If you register they'll notify you when the book you are looking for comes in and you have the option right there to convert PUBs into Mobi's.

So thank you, my friend. I've just downloaded it. I'm trying to finish off THINK LIKE A LADY, ACT LIKE A MAN. My boyfriend is driving me nuts so I'm taking the week off from him and maybe learn something in this book....LOL

@kellyann *My boyfriend is driving me nuts so I'm taking the week off from him*...This made me laugh out loud......I enjoyed this book, very long, but keeps you thirsty for more.....I enjoy reading more then watching the movie, this book will not be made into a movie cause she refused to sell the rights to Hollywood, this is not a new book, its been out for years...Enjoy the book and your week off from your boyfriend.

@kellyann Question how much do they charge for the download of the book.

@แ—ฉแ–‡แ—ฐแ•ฎแ•ฎK See, I am a movie buff and was renting them constantly even though I probably couldn't afford to be doing that. And I'd buy all my books from second hand book stores or willing to wait for a Stephen King book to go paperback...I'd spend the money then. They would have been around 7 dollars. But I haven't spent a cent since my first computer and Kindle Book Reader.

Now, I've been doing this, as a single mom and I can get them both for free, soooo??!?

This site will ask if you want to sign on. It's free. You don't have to sign up at all. If you're reader file is not there then you can always download a really free..LOL...File Converter.

@kellyann I dont have a kindle, with work doing research for engine development and streaming I spend too much time in front of a screen and plus I really love having a book in my hands, old school I guess.....Second hand book stores are wonderful, unfortunately not that many left in this city....I'm going to look into that site....Thank you darlin'....*Be well always.

True Story.............*A Family Tradition....................By Author-Joseph M. Mazzella

โœฏ It was mid-October when I first spotted them. They were the first Christmas decorations of the year. It was the beginning of the 10 week period when the stores do all they can to get us to buy all we can. It was the great Christmas shopping rush and the bigger the gifts the better. I shook my head sadly and walked on, but then a wonderful memory came back into my mind. It was late-December from several years earlier. I was shopping alone trying to pick up some thick Winter socks to warm my frozen feet. As I rounded the corner in the store I saw a Christmas tree full of paper angels. On each angel was the name of a needy child whose family couldnโ€™t afford to buy them a gift that year. Shoppers who picked an angel could buy a simple toy or gift and the store would wrap it and send it to the child that Christmas. Around the tree I saw a teenage boy and girl picking out several angels apiece. Their mother was smiling while she watched them. I walked up next to her and started talking with her. She told me that her children started this several years ago when she first explained to them what the Charity Angel tree was for. Each offered to give up one of their toys that year so that a needy child could have one. It didnโ€™t stop then, though. Each year since the kids had saved money they earned throughout the year and bought more and more children the gifts they wouldnโ€™t have otherwise. It had become a family tradition. I smiled when she finished, walked over to the tree, and picked out a few angels too. I left the store feeling in touch with the true meaning of Christmas.

The ranking, put together by Travelandleisure, SmarterTravel and CNN Travel, put Quebec City at No. 8, just ahead of Reykjavik, Iceland, and just behind Honolulu, Hawaii.

This isn't the first time Quebec City has been recognized for rocking the holidays. In 2016, it was voted North America's best winter wonderland by USA Today.

@แ—ฉแ–‡แ—ฐแ•ฎแ•ฎK It's beautiful. I live in Saint JOhn, NB. This is the Loyalist City. There was a great fire that took out most of the place many years ago but we still have the brown stones houses and old banks and museum with the tall pillars in front. Just beautiful.
When I was a kid we lived uptown. I remember my brother and I in our snow suits being pulled in a sled by our mother so she could do some Christmas shopping. It would be twilight and the streets were draped across decorations and Christmas music being played on loud speakers on the stores.
Uptown is a ghost town now. Grass is growing up between the sidewalk cracks. They tear our heritage houses down now. City can't afford to take care of them. But Christmas as a kid was magical. I'm glad I got to experience that before it all went to sh*t..lol

@kellyann Been to St John many many times my late wife was born and raised there, and her mom and sister still live there......Old city with a lot of charm.....Have a wonderful evening.

Award Winning FX Short Film............................................. ABE
โ˜…Abe was programmed to love. Until recently, he had a family: he was living with them, cooking, helping them in every aspect of their lives โ€“ it was a servile situation, but he didnโ€™t care, because he felt loved. Then, suddenly, everything changed and his โ€œfamilyโ€ stopped loving him. The lack of affection shook the robot, undermined its mechanisms. They tell him that heโ€™s only a machine, a mere application, but he feels otherwise: heโ€™s aware of himself and his emotions, and this situation leads him to perform horrific acts. The lack of love from the people around him is unacceptable for Abe, who begins to โ€˜fixโ€™ all humans he would like to receive attention from.
