In modern usage, the phrase is taken to describe a populace that no longer values civic
virtues and the public life. To many, it connotes a supposed triviality and frivolity that
characterized the Roman Republic prior to its decline into the autocratic monarchy
characteristic of the later Roman Empire's transformation about 44 B.C

Hide 2 replies... @Bread&Circuses It is. It is a national holiday, but no. We don't celebrate it as a Veteran's Day, nor do we have a Veteran's Day in general. It is like we have All Saints Feast, but we do not have Halloween. These 2 are Karen and Stanley's offspring. I can't believe they each ended up with a little mini me each. lol

Hide 3 replies... @Bread&Circuses I stopped drinking in my 30's but I started drinking the odd beer and sometimes champagne about a year ago. I've decided sobriety isn't all it's cracked up to be.
