Fast paced and enjoyable as long as you're not looking for realism. It's like the ultimate cop fantasy; the seemingly bad boy with impeccable morals given the power to clean up the department. The writing is good, the characters are three dimensional, I expect I will watch for awhile longer.

It isn’t often I disagree this hard on a show, but I like this one! I love how he is the good guy in a world of corruption surrounding him at work and the way he handles it. Just a good ol’ boy getting things done!

I wrote a review for the 1st episode and felt it had potential. I was wrong.. (so far)

I had a hard time watching the second episode after the first 15 minutes. It did not take long before this series drifted into Police / Crime drama fantasy land, which can be described as incredulous. This storyline was realistic back in the days of Dirty Harry but adding 'woke' elements and respinning it in 2020 doesn't cut it. (for me anyway) Everything about the storyline is non-sensical boarding on ridiculous and the dialog is full of cliches.

Stephen Dorf delivers a fine performance but as a whole, it just doesn't work - certainly not in a city like LA. (i.e. a stakeout of violent criminals and the exits are not blocked? huh?) I may try one more episode but I don't expect any real changes in the story arc. Some may like it- for it does check off ALL the PC/WOke boxes...

A series about a reluctant California sheriff with an Old School ‘Texan’ approach to his job but he is conflicted – he doesn’t support rounding-up illegals by assisting ICE. The writing is excellent – fresh and crisp. Some lines may seem a bit over the top but within context, it’s more of a noir style of dialog from cop movies in the 1940s-50s. Stephen Dorff does an outstanding job in the lead role and masterfully pulls it off. (hard to imagine another that could) Being that this is set in California, as one might imagine, every WOKE box is checked off. That said, it’s not WOKE!? The writers explore how people with opposite world views find ways to work together for a common goal. A bold and challenging task in today's political landscape but they seem up to the job. The show moves at a break-neck speed with plenty of action. (you may find yourself out od breath within the first 8 minutes!)
The characters and actors are good having depth and range. Very promising series and worth the watch. ...

@bigsteve You say you give it 8 out of 10, yet your rating shows only 3/10????? WTF

@oldshuntr My first review was on episode 1 and thought it had much potential and I liked the pacing and the performance by Stephen Dorf. When I watched the 2nd episode, I found it very disappointing not only with the incredulous plot but the overall direction - which I had hoped wouldn't happen but it did. So - I started with a rating on episode 1 with an 8/10 and the 2nd episode with 3/10 - too bad really because I thought it had a lot of potential but it turned into cliches, virtual signalling and Cop/ Crime fantasy. In the future, I won't write a review until I can watch several episodes and avoid any confusion. I do not want to mislead anyone. I really liked the Deputy's charachter but there's no real context or OUT OF CONTEXT - based in present day Los Angeles. Seriously, how long you think a Texas sheriff would last in Los Angeles?

@bigsteve LOL The ratings show 3/10 on both comments. I liked the 2nd episode better myself. I guess my thinking would be more along the lines of how will Los Angeles actually adjust to having to follow the rules?

@oldshuntr I don't know why that happened - when I rated episode 2 with 3 stars - it changed both posts to 3 stars which was not my intention. In regard to LA 'following the NEW rules' - nightmare for law enforcement and prosecutors.. the stats say it all... The stake-out in the first 15 minutes... huh? T A convicted felon, murderer and psychopath pulls a gun on the Deputy and The Deputy makes the choice to disarm him - so he can spend 20 years in jail??? You sound like you may know some peace officers - ask them.. gheez... another Universe buddy! This could have worked if it wasn't LA - say a smaller city in CA - where rich celebs have to hire private police because the police cannot do there job - this is what is being done right now in San Fran! I really like the charachter, the dialog and Stephen Dorff's performance but as a professional - he has to deliver the lines given to him. ...

This has a kind of 'Lone Wolf McQuade' + 'Dirty Harry' feel to it. Decent first episode. I'm not sure that they can keep up the momentum but if they do this will be a show to add to my watchlist. Time will tell.

@00Dvora00 After watching ten episodes I eventually found myself fast-forwarding much of episode ten just to get thru it. The episodes became too predictable and formulaic. Then, of course, they had to add a blond to the mix so they could include all the demographics and up the ratings which I think just ruined it. I'm taking this one off my list, I simply lost interest in the direction they took this one. If they had of just focused on one badass sheriff and let his character lose to solve crime 'his way' then maybe this one would have been salvageable. Instead, they expanded on the political angle and muddy what could have been a decent show. (PS: This 'political correct' movement that is encasing the globe has ruined good television entertainment. Its like the tv-makers are trying so damn hard to please every faction in the public sector and not step on anyone's toes that they are really sh*tting on plots that have potential but can't be utilized for fear of public backlash.)
