@clarachan1355 I'm really not sure what you are going on about.... but then again most of the time you make no sense anyway.

What? Do you think because you haven't heard the lyrics I posted they are "tough", nope they aren't. It's just your ancient brain being constipated.

Each to their own, surely you know the meaning of that phrase?

@𝓜𝓸𝓾𝓼𝓮*🐭 It's not about you, Mousie.

She wrote (basically) that your lyrics reminded her of tragic, High School times, and then "I'm a loser" in Spanish and then was chatting about how the Beatles were like a cult and some lyrics that she cannot remember rightly, and then segwayed into an era in her life she's familiar with...

Confusing, but not about you at all.

One of my favorite songs from this newcomer singer lorde...

There's a humming in the restless summer air
And we're slipping off the course that we prepared
But in all chaos, there is calculation
Dropping glasses just to hear them break
You've been drinking like the world was gonna end (it didn't)
Took a shiner from the fist of your best friend (go figure)
It's clear that someone's gotta go
We mean it, but I promise we're not mean

It's not in the way you say you care
It's not in the way you've been treating my friends
It's not in the way that you stayed till the end
It's not in the way you look or the things that you say that you'll do
Hold the line, love isn't always on time, oh oh oh
Hold the line, love isn't always on time, oh oh oh
It's not in the words that you told me, girl
It's not in the way you say you're mine, ooh
It's not in the way that you came back to me
It's not in the way that your love set me free
It's not in the way you look or the things that you say that you'll do

Ticking away the moments that make up a dull day
Fritter and waste the hours in an offhand way.
Kicking around on a piece of ground in your home town
Waiting for someone or something to show you the way.
Tired of lying in the sunshine staying home to watch the rain.
You are young and life is long and there is time to kill today.
And then one day you find ten years have got behind you.
No one told you when to run, you missed the starting gun.
So you run and you run to catch up with the sun but it's sinking
Racing around to come up behind you again.
The sun is the same in a relative way but you're older,
Shorter of breath and one day closer to death.

I know there's something in the wake of your smile
I get a notion from the look in your eyes, yea
You've built a love but that love falls apart
Your little piece of heaven turns too dark
Listen to your heart when he's calling for you
Listen to your heart there's nothing else you can do
I don't know where you're going and I don't know why,
But listen to your heart before you tell him goodbye
Sometimes you wonder if this fight is worthwhile
The precious moments are all lost in the tide, yea
They're swept away and nothing is what is seems,

The feeling of belonging to your dreams
Listen to your heart when he's calling for you
Listen to your heart there's nothing else you can do
I don't know where you're going and I don't know why,

"Stephen Thomas Erlewine has described the song as "undeniably catchy" and "one of the best (songs) Blur ever recorded", praising the band for making the song "feel exactly like Eurotrash", and specifying that the chorus's reference to "girls who are boys/who like boys to be girls/who do boys like they're girls/who do girls like they're boys" is "an absolutely devastating put-down of '90s gender-bending, where even ambi-sexuals didn't know whose fantasy they were fulfilling"... I can agree with that. And people are even more bent now.

@bondojoe A lot of PF fans complain that after Roger left the band following The Final Cut album, the subsequent albums (AMLOR, Division Bell, and Endless River) were not the bands best work and/or they are nothing like as good as the bands work throughout the 70's, because they feel David's lyric/song-writing wasn't nearly as strong as Rogers, hence why David's wife (Polly Samson) did quite a lot of the lyric/songwriting for the post-Waters albums, while David, Rick & Nick focused more on the musical playing/production side of things.

But honestly, as excellent as the bands 70's albums are, the band simply couldn't have continued going in the direction Roger was relentlessly driving the band.

The Final Cut, for example, is a good album, but like Rogers subsequent solo album, Radio K.A.O.S. (1987), some of the songs on The Final Cut have not aged very well at all, simply because Roger wrote them as political mood pieces for the time in which they were written (1982/83), and so those songs are forever tied to that period of time.

@bondojoe Aye, he had/has a lot of issues and a lot of anger about some things, most of which he used to drive his songwriting, particularly with Animals, The Wall, The Final Cut, and his solo album Radio K.A.O.S.

And while there's nothing wrong with that per se, it simply got to the point where it was killing the band, because he was effectively acting as a dictator instead of giving his bandmates the chance to properly express their creative thoughts and opinions.

Hence why he didn't think the band could survive without him after The Final Cut and the whole lawsuit over the rights to use the bands name, while David, Rick & Nick eventually went on and showed Roger that they could work without him fairly successfully.

There's a danger zone,
Not a stranger zone
Than the little plot I walk on that I call my home
Full of eerie sights,
Weird and skeery sights,
Of every vicious animal that creeps and crawls and bites!!

On the Amazon, the prophylactics prowl
On the Amazon, the hypodermics howl
On the Amazon, you'll hear a scarab scowl and sting,
Zodiacs on the wing
All the stalactites and vicious vertebrae,
Hunt the stalagmites while laryngitis slay,
All the parasites that come from Paraguay,
In the spring, hmm, hmm hmmm

Snarling equinox, among the rocks, will seize you
And the fahrenheit, comes out at night, to freeze you
Wild duodenum are lurking in the trees
And the jungle swarms with green apostrophes
Oh, the Amazon is calling me

On the Amazon, the pax vobiscum bite
On the Amazon, the epiglottis fight

I want to be a lion
Yeah, everybody wants to pass as cats
We all want to be big, big stars, yeah
But we got different reasons for that
Believe in me, 'cause I don't believe in anything
And I, I want to be someone to believe.

Mr. Jones and me, stumbling through the barrio
Yeah, we stare at the beautiful women
"She's perfect for you, man, there's got to be somebody for me."
I want to be Bob Dylan
Mr. Jones wishes he was someone just a little more funky
When everybody loves you,
That's just about as funky as you can be.

Remember when you were the talk of the town
And you didn't care if I was around
But still you kept me in the back of your head
Just like the teddy bear that you took to bed
I was only
Something to fall back on
Something to fall back on
Something to fall back on
And to wake up lonely is your deepest dread
So you stay connected by a tiny thread
Though you'd rather try for something else instead
When you need to find me I'm right behind you
I know I'm only
Something to fall back on
Something to fall back on
Something to fall back on

Well they said she died easy of a broken heart disease
As I listened through the cemetery trees
I seen the sun comin' up at the funeral at dawn
The long broken arm of human law
Now it always seemed such a waste, she always had a pretty face
So I wondered how she hung around this place

up to your old tricks again
Bear down you Texas sun
you make the desserts dry and the brush fires run
Splintered wood rusty chains
this old front porch swing remains
A pendulum of memories
goes back and forth on a summer breeze

Singing old church hymns and nursery rhymes
From the days way back before my time
With a little child upon my knee singing every sweet word back to me
Look how far I had to come to get back where I started from
With a child's wisdom passing time
Singing old church hymns and nursery rhymes

I've run the race I've walked the wire
I paid the price of my desire
And the only time I've known it all
is just before I took a fall
So howl you lone coyote song
fade to sapphire sky of dawn
Count me in the lucky men

The rhythm of this trembling heart

It knows not how it sounds
For it is the drum of drums
It is the song of songs...

Once I had the rarest rose
That ever deigned to bloom.
Cruel winter chilled the bud
And stole my flower too soon.

It seems some story was told
But what is there to tell?
Well, some song had been sung
But none of it sings
So let's spell it out
A, B, and C
Up and down from A is to Z
You meant zed, you said zed
From nothing to something
And something for nothing
From no one to someone
From someone to same one
Same old thing
The only way out
Leads to no way back
What can you do?
Easy
You shove it back where it came
Easy
You never let yourself down
So you got up
And you ran
And you run to get up
Through Chinatowns
To slip right down
Soho's a town in every downtown
Drinking friends
Who've drunk in bars
Whose drunken friends
In drinking bars, waiting
For the lightning man to strike
Icing on your cake
Well, if I knew you were coming
I'd cooked your goose
Baby, come to daddy
Baby, come…

Just like before when I was a child
Only to find dreams made of sand
Would just fall apart and slip through my hands
But the spirit of life keeps us strong
And the spirit of life is the will to carry on
Adversity what have I done to you
To cause this reclusive silence
That has come between me and you
And the spirit of life remains in light
And the spirit of life remains inside
I never thought it would be quite like this
Living outside of mutual bliss
But as long as the veins in our arm still stand up
The spirit of life will keep living on

We need new dreams tonight.
Desert rose, dreamed I saw a desert rose
Dress torn in ribbons and bows
Like a siren she calls (to me).

Sleep comes like a drug in God's country
Sad eyes, crooked crosses, in God's country

Set me alight, we'll punch a hole right through the night.
Every day the dreamers die to see what's on the other side.
She is liberty, and she comes to rescue me.
Hope, faith, her vanity
The greatest gift is gold.

Sleep comes like a drug in God's country

I stand with the sons of Cain
Burned by the fire of love
Burned by the fire of love.

and cast it to the sea,
Then watch the ripples
that unfold into me
My face spills so gently
into your eyes
Disturbing the waters
of our lives

Shreds of our memories
are lying on your grass
Wounded words of laughter
are graveyards of the past
Photographs are grey and torn,
scattered in your fields
Letters of your memories
are not real

Wear sadness on your shoulders
like a worn-out overcoat
In pockets creased and tattered
hang the rags of your hopes
The daybreak is your midnight,
the colours have all died
Disturbing the waters

Of our lives,
of our lives, lives, lives, lives
Of our lives

I fear this may well be the substance of mans last conversation before AI finally takes over

Man alone, born of stone,
Will stamp the dust of time
His hands strike the flame of his soul;
Ties a rope to a tree and hangs the Universe
Until the winds of laughter blows cold.

Fear that rattles in men's ears
And rears its hideous head
Dread... Death... in the wind...

Man of steel pray and kneel
With fever's blazing torch
Thrust in the face of the night;
Draws a blade of compassion
Kissed by countless Kings
Whose jewelled trumpet words blind his sight.

Walls that no man thought would fall
The altars of the just
Crushed... Dust... in the wind...

No man yields who flies in my ship
Danger!
Let the bridge computer speak
Stranger!
Load your program. I am yourself.

No computer stands in my way
Only blood can cancel my pain
Guardians of a nuclear dawn
Let the maps of war be drawn.

Rejoice! Glory is ours!
Our young men have not died in vain,
Their graves need no flowers

And every path I take

I might draw near
Before I slip out like a thief
The only reason
I arrive is to leave

I will find desperation
In the middle of this peace

And I won't be happy with this bridge
'Til I can sit and watch it burn

Floating upon my sea
And my waves are crashing
And I cannot hear you scream

Everything you could
To a brain that willed
But a heart that never ever would

Roses for Mama

well, i had two weeks vacation comin', so i thought i'd drive down to florida:
spend some time with an old friend, date a few girls, make a few parties, and
just kinda live it up again.
so i packed up my car, and then i called my mom in tennesee, and told her what
i planned to do. she said, "son, are you comin' by?" and i said, "mom, i'm
really pushed for time, but i'll see you in a week or two."
and i was drivin' through this little town in georgia when i remembered:
today's mama's birthday. well, i thought i'll just stop and wire some flowers.
shouldn't take too long; then i'll be on my way.
so i walked in a flower shop and the first thing i saw was this little boy,
with his eyes full a' tears. i said, "what's wrong, son?" he said, "mama loves
roses. and today's her birthday, and i haven't seen her in almost a year."

Say hello sun,as we sail bye

I'll take you where, you've never been before
Once we're there, you'll cry for more
If it's dark in your world, come walk in mine
My love's a light babe,it's on all the time

Come with me,come with me
The feeling's free, just come with me
Will get on a cloud girl, and ride it high
Say hello sun,as we sail bye

Come with me,come with me

Richard Cory
Simon & Garfunkel
They say that Richard Cory
Owns one-half of this here town
With political conections
To spread his wealth around
Born into society, a bankers only child
He had everything a man could want
Power, grace and style

But, I work in his factory
And I curse the life I'm livin'
And I curse my poverty
And I wish that I could be
Yeah, I wish that I could be
Lord, I wish that I could be, Richard Cory

Paper's print his pictures
Almost everywhere he go
Richard Cory at the opera
Richard Cory at the show
And the rumours of his a-parties
And orgies on his yacht
Heart and soul he must be happy
With everything that he has got

But, I work in his factory
And I curse the life I'm livin'
And I curse my poverty
And I wish that I could be
Yeah, I wish that I could be
Lord, I wish that I could be, Richard Cory

He freely gave to charity
And had that common touch
They were grateful for his patronage
And thanked him very much

Seether - Rise Above This - This isn't a song about lost love, it's a song about the lead singer losing his brother through suicide...

Take the light, and darken everything around me
Call the clowns, and listen closely, I'm lost without you
Call your name everyday, when I feel so helpless
I've fallen down, but I'll rise above this (rise above this)
Hate your mind, regrets are better left unspoken
For all we know this void will grow
And everything's in vain, distressing you, don't leave me open
Feels so right but I'll end this all before it gets me
Call your name everyday, when I feel so helpless
I've fallen down (fallen down) but I'll rise above this (rise above this)
Call your name everyday when I seem so helpless
I've fallen down (fallen down) but I'll rise above this (rise above this)
I'll mend myself before it gets me
I'll mend myself before it gets me

This will never end 'cause I want more
More, give me more, give me more

If I had a heart I could love you
If I had a voice I would sing
After the night when I wake up
I'll see what tomorrow brings

If I had a voice I would sing

Dangling feet from window frame
Will They ever ever reach the floor?
More, give me more, give me more

Crushed and filled with all I found
Underneath and inside
Just to come around
More, give me more, give me more

If I had a voice I would sing

When this old gray black gentleman was cleanin' up the lounge

There wasn't anyone around 'cept this old man and me

I remember the thirty-five sweet goodbyes
When you put me on the Wolverine
Up to Annandale
It was still September
When your daddy was quite surprised
To find you with the working girls
In the county jail
I was smoking with the boys upstairs
When I heard about the whole affair
I said oh no
William and Mary won't do

Well I did not think the girl
Could be so cruel
And I'm never going back
To my old school

Oleanders growing outside her door
Soon they're gonna be in bloom
Up in Annandale
I can't stand her
Doing what she did before
Living like a gypsy queen
In a fairy tale
Well I hear the whistle but I can't go
I'm gonna take her down to Mexico
She said oh no
Guadalajara won't do

California tumbles into the sea
That'll be the day I go
Back to Annandale
Tried to warn you
About Chino and Daddy Gee
But I can't seem to get to you
Through the U.S. Mail
Well I hear the whistle but I can't go
I'm gonna take her down to Mexico

One from Leon Russels "Carney"

Tight Rope

I'm up on the tight wire
One side's ice and one is fire
It's a circus game with you and me
I'm up on the tightrope
One side's hate and one is hope
But the top hat on my head is all you see

And the wire seems to be
the only place for me
A comedy of errors and I'm falling

Like a rubber-neck giraffe
You look into my past
Well maybe you're just too blind to
see

I'm up in the spotlight
Oh, does it feel right
Oh, the altitude
seems to get to me

I'm up on the tight wire
Flanked by life and the funeral pyre
Putting on a show
for you to see

Like a rubber-neck giraffe
You look into my past
Well maybe you're just too blind to
see

I'm up in the spotlight
Oh does it feel right
Oh the altitude
really gets to get to me

I'm up on the tight wire
Flanked by life and the funeral pyre
Putting on a show for you to see

One last entry before I bail off into the shop to do a lil work. Stayin true to my Texas roots, here's one from the home team :>)

"Screw You, We're From Texas!" by Ray Wylie Hubbard

I got on my cowboy boots, jeans
And Hawaiian shirt, mirrored sunglasses
And a mobile phone
I guess I look like some Port Aransas
Dope dealer that's out on bail
Just trying to get home
Well I ain't in jail and I got me a guitar
Got a little band that's hotter than a rocket
Sometimes we're sloppy
We're always loud, tonight we're just ornery
And locked in the pocket

So screw you, we're from Texas
Screw you, we're from Texas
Screw you, we're from Texas
We're from Texas baby, so screw you

Now I love the USA
And the other states
Ahh, they're OK
Texas is the place I wanna be
And I don't care if I ever go to Delaware anyway
'Cause we got Stubbs, and Gruene Hall and Antone's, and John T's
Country Store

Six Blade Knife

Your six blade knife,

Anything you want it to

One blade for breaking my heart
One blade for tearing me apart
Your six blade knife
do anything for you

You can take away my mind
like you take away the top of a tin
When you come up from behind
and lay it down cold on my skin

Took a stone from my soul
when I was lame
Just so you
could make me tame
You take away my mind
like you take away the top of a tin

I'd like to be free of it now,
I don't want it no more
I'd like to be free of it now,
you know I don't want it no more

Everybody got a knife
it can be just what they want it to be

or something that you just can't see
You know it keeps you strong
Yes and it'll do me wrong

And Brother said he recollected when he and Tom and Billie Joe
Put a frog down my back at the Carroll County picture show
And wasn't I talkin' to him after church last Sunday night?
"I'll have another piece of apple pie, you know it don't seem right"
"I saw him at the sawmill yesterday on Choctaw Ridge"
"And now you tell me Billie Joe's jumped off the Tallahatchie Bridge"

And Mama said to me "Child, what's happened to your appetite?"
"I've been cookin' all morning and you haven't touched a single bite"
"That nice young preacher, Brother Taylor, dropped by today"
"Said he'd be pleased to have dinner on Sunday, oh, by the way"
"He said he saw a girl that looked a lot like you up on Choctaw Ridge"
"And she and Billie Joe was throwing somethin' off the Tallahatchie Bridge"

@ElectricAngel69 "I Will"

Who knows how long I've loved you
You know I love you still
Will I wait a lonely lifetime
If you want me to, I will

For if I ever saw you
I didn't catch your name
But it never really mattered
I will always feel the same

Love you forever and forever
Love you with all my heart
Love you whenever we're together
Love you when we're apart

And when at last I find you
Your song will fill the air
Sing it loud so I can hear you
Make it easy to be near you
For the things you do endear you to me
Oh, you know I will
I will
.... A throw away by the Beatles... a song that most people have never heard. Simple but excellent.

From a woman w/one of the most beautiful voices ever:

He was sitting in the lounge of the Empire Hotel
He was drinking for diversion
He was thinking for himself
A little money riding on the Maple Leafs
Along comes a lady in lacy sleeves
She says let me sit down
You know, drinkin' alone's a shame (It's a shame it's a crying shame)
Look at those jokers
Glued to that damn hockey game
Hey honey-you've got lots of cash
Bring us round a bottle

That you spend it all with me
All the seasons and the times of your days
All the nickels and the dimes of your days
Let the reasons and the rhymes of your days
All begin and end with me
I want to see your face in every kind of light
In fields of gold and forest overnight
And when you stand before the candles on the cake
Oh let me be the one to hear the silent wish you make

Similarly with poetry you can only post a small passage unless it's out of copyright.

The only exception that I know of is Christian artists are so beloved in Christian circles that they allow lyrics of their songs as they are sung in church on giant screens.

I love when people block me from reading their vile hate. That is like never having to step in wet dog manure.

I tell you the truth
T-t-t-twistin’ like a flame in a slow dance,
baby
You’re driving me crazy
Come on, little honey, come on

Are we really happy here with this lonely game we play?
Looking for words to say...
Searching but not finding understanding anyway
We're lost in a mask masquerade
Both afraid to say we're just too far away...
From being close together from the start...
We tried to talk it over but the words got in the way
We're lost inside this lonely game we play
Thoughts of weeping disappear every time I see your eyes

i searched for something to explain
in the whispering rain, the trembling leaves
tell me baby where did you go
you were here just a moment ago

there's nights i still hear your footsteps fall
your key in the door, your voice in the hall
your smell drifts through our bedroom
i lie awake, but i don't move

Ticking away the moments that make up a dull day,
You fritter and waste the hours in an offhand way,
Kicking around on a piece of ground in your hometown,
Waiting for someone or something to show you the way.

Tired of lying in the sunshine, staying home to watch the rain,
And you are young and life is long, and there is time to kill today,
And then one day you find, the years have got behind you,
No one told you when to run, you missed the starting gun.

(Guitar solo)

And you run and you run to catch up with the sun but it's sinking,
Racing around to come up behind you again,
The sun is the same in the relative way but you're older,
Shorter of breath and one day closer to death.

Every year is getting shorter, never seem to find the time,
Plans that either come to naught, or half a page of scribbled lines,
Hanging on in quiet desperation is the English way,
The time is gone, the song is over, thought I'd something more to say.

I first heard this song on The Girl in The Cafe (oh my gosh WE NEED LINKS TO THIS BRILLIANT FILM) which if anyone has NOT seen it, they should. Brilliantly acted. An HBO production that was kept out of mainstream release. I saw it when I friend who works for the Academy gave me their CD ahead of time... LOL

@Lurkio I can hear it in my head, now. Was that from Machine head? I remember when "Smoke on the Water" came out...and you could drive down the street that I lived on, and EVERY garage either had a band practicing that song, or a stereo blasting it out. The most dominate song that I have ever heard. It was literaly everywhere, all of the time. You didn't go five mnutes without hearing it.

Better Than Them

(Sullivan) 1984

This is our town, this is Friday night
Dressed in our rags and our rage and our best
Piercing eyes looking for something - anything, anyone.
Stare across the floor as they begin to dance
Missing all the rhythms and the chosen right steps
And we laugh and we drink in our corner again
We're better than them
Divided we were born, divided we live
Divided we fall, divided we die
Still we tell ourselves over and over again
We're better than them
With our hunger and our hatred, we all walk this town
With our fear and our weakness - just holding on
With our doubt and our emptiness and this cold, cold frown
We've got to be so important, we'll put the whole damn world down
And we build the walls that we can hide behind
And our finest weapon is our poisoned pride

Grand Central Station
Wheels and it deals
The crowds rush and scramble
Round past the newsstands
And out across the floors

And I did some singing
And I played guitar
Down near a doorway
Howling out words
And banging out chords

Well, think what you will
Laugh if you like
It don't make no difference to me
I'll open my case
And I might catch a coin
But all ears may listen for free

Big clocks were tickin'
Trains came and went
Sad, ragged figures
Limped in the hallways
And dug through the trash

While old folks and young folks
Passed in a flood
On dashing somewhere
Wrapped in their lives
And gone in a flash

Well, think what you will
Laugh if you like
It don't make no difference to me
I'll open my case
And I might catch a coin
But all ears may listen for free

[Harmonica and Instrumental Bridge]
Well, a man came a talkin'
He stopped where I stood
He warned me so gravely
“The cops here'll nab ya, boy
And they'll take ya right on down, yes.”

that's one more kid
