I watched this show every week on Friday nights. Bare in mind I was very young. I was 10 years old or maybe a bit younger. I never paid any attention to what the flag on the top of the General Lee meant due to my age and all. I would just like to know everyone's opinion on this Classic t.v. show. Was it racist?

@SimonM yes I agree. I don't remember it that way. I also may have a different perspective if I were to watch it now. The only thing I remember vividly is how funny Rosco P Coltrane was along with Boss Hogg. Also I had a huge crush on Luke Duke and my best friend had a crush on Bo Duke. Thanks for giving your opinion.

@💛Yellow_rose1💛 I loved that show. I just hit my teens when that show first started, I think every boy I knew had a crush on Daisy Duke and every girl had a crush on one of the Duke boys. Watching Daisy on screen was almost like watching soft porn at that age. smiley smiley

I dont know about your memory but asking about racist overtones on a show going back 40 years, might have been a bit too ambitious for mine. I cant remember of any episode that was distasteful in any way, but then again I cant remember any episodes to begin with smiley Of course at that age I used to also think that Bud Spenser and Terence Hill were anything but distasteful smiley

What was really funny though was the movie and especially the part on driving to civilization smiley smiley

@M3g4m1nd I vaguely remember watching this years after it was made. I found it a really bad imitation of a very old, and amusing, comedy.

@DontSpeak I am not the one to disagree on matters of personal taste. I found it quite refreshing, entertaining and true to the original tv series of the 80s. I rewatched it last night and I can certainly say that my opinion remains unchanged. smiley

@M3g4m1nd LOL It was never my intention to change your opinion in the least.

It's only my somewhat vague recollection from having watched it once a few years ago. I might feel completely different if I watched it today. It wasn't impressive to me either way [in my recollection]. smiley

Racist? Nah, not even sexist, because it was such a "team" effort.

Those were different times.
A time traveler from the '70s would not understand the wokeness nowadays, when everyone searches for something to be offended about.
The USA might have been different with segregation in the southern states, but in Europe everyone seemed to get along together and items of interest (eg. Ni*ger brown shoe polish) were not relevant or remarkable.

No...if anything, it was heavy on the stereotyping of folks from the South.
