A movie about drug testing using a battery pack on a person's lower back thats remote controled by a freaking SMARTPHONE.

I'm not.. I cant even.. I'm so appaled by the sh*t production value of Netflix movies.
I've seen better low brow Lifetime movies than this.
The production design is pathetically appaling.
Its so laughable.

And they marketed it as if this was gonna be BLACK MIRROR genre hahahahahhahahahahahah

As for the story, dont even bother.
I couldnt care less about ANY of the character.
And they pick gross-ass-face Miles Teller and that girl who advocates for her hate-crime-faker little brother Jussie, Journey Smolett, as if they couldnt find any other low quality actress in the same calibre of average-ness.

I feel sorry for Chris Hemsworth

SPIDERHEAD - Chris Hemsworth

June 2022

The story takes place in the not-too-distant future in a research center where hardened criminals volunteer for a treatment that promises them 'redemption' and a reduction in sentence. A device that administers a drug cocktail is surgically attached to their lower back and can be controlled by a smartphone.

Chris Hemsworth plays the scientist/founder that is working for the 'greater good. Slight problem - he a total narcissistic psychopath - what could possibly go wrong? The story is based on a novella satire by George Saunders. Not sure how true the movie is to the book but watching it- I didn't get the sense it was a satire. Chris does a fine job with the part but it seems loaded with 'padding/fillers'

While watching it - I kept looking at the clock. The first 19 minutes...give it more time - 55 minutes OMG! Why I am still watching this? I know how it's going to end but figured, 'OK another 25 minutes to go - so I sped it up a bit. ...

@bigsteve Thanks for your review! It sounds like the film just can't do what it promises---and that's a real shame because the premise sounds amazing if done well! smiley I guess I'll pass...

@YgraineDance It's a good story - a bit dated now and based on a novella that may not have had enough material for a movie. You might want to watch it and see the first 30 minutes. (I should have stopped at 20 min) Looks like a lower-budget production with very few sets. (Chris may have gotten paid most of the budget to get distribution) See for yourself and thanks for the feedback! appreciate it!

@bigsteve Okay, I'll give it a go. Here's one I can recommend for you, if you haven't seen it - "Dark Winds" is a new TV crime show based on Tony Hillerman's Navajo characters Leaphorn and Chee. I've seen the first 2 eps. and I'm impressed so far. Good talent in front of, and behind, the cameras here. You might enjoy!

Please be patient with "Spiderhead". It is meant to disconnect you, to disgust you and to endeavour you to "switch it off". Don't do that. You will miss the message... Chris Hemsworth (Thor, Thor, and Thor) is scratching an itch, that won't please many. He's not a goody, he's a baddy. Naughty, naughty, naughty, dirty boy. The introductory sequence is truly off-putting, as are the next 30 minutes, but after a viewer acclimates to the tone (why Thor? Why???) they can somewhat discern the "message" and the foretold horror. Please understand, this departure is a risk for Chris Hemsworth, but his objective is indeed achieved. He has range. The script is a bit predictable, but there is a lot going for it. Wait for a HD c0py. The [email protected] has a consistent wavy aspect that is distracting and annoying. Another, more equanimity driven review will ensure upon a better up1oad. Recommended.

Spiderhead (2022). Who has read the story 'Escape from Spiderhead' by George Saunders in his short-story collection 'Tenth of December'? It is worth reading (summary: [SPOILER] ...

It has a good cast, good director and interesting source material, but the movie falls far short of the sum of its parts. If they just cut it down to a Black Mirror episode length, it would have done better. A lot of the failures seem to have stemmed from trying to lengthen the runtime so it reaches a standard movie runtime. This lead to unnecessary scenes and inconsistent tone throughout the movie. I'd recommend just reading the short story this is based on, and skipping the movie.

They also should have just let Chris use his natural accent. His American accent isn't terrible, but there wasn't really much reason he had to be American here.

I was salt disappointed with this one. I usually don't watch trailers (or at least the whole trailer) for films that I'm excited to see bc for one I like to have no idea what I'm in for and I like to have no expectations. Well I broke my rule with this one and watched the whole trailer. This was one that all the best parts were shown in the trailer. I just felt like this one fell short and that they could have done a lot more with it. It's like they rushed it. It was over before it got good.
Seeing Chris play that part wasn't off-putting for me, I think he can play bad parts. My husband put it well this film was too much appetizer and not enough main dish!

@Teeny💋 I got to confess I was worrying if something wrong with my head because of the heat.... I couldn't get in touch with the film. Finally I paused and made snapshot of that big building by the sea. Full cement and looking like a boat. I think I agree with you, Big Steven and all that give low ratings.

Boring movie, which is more predictable than if you had the script in your hands! I personally believe this movie has been used to try and show that Chris Hemsworth can act and has depth and range to his acting skills. Sadly he hasn't. All in all a very boring movie which is very slow and feels very rushed at the end. I'm sure with a script tweak and a better leading man this film could have been a lot better than it is.

'Escape from Spiderhead' by George Saunders ,a short story. This movie is 47 mins to long, other than that,Joseph Trapanese's film scoring was a breath of fresh air (no rap), Chris Hemsworth, Miles Teller at their best, the movie itself; nothing to write home about
