Meh. Another woke version of where the other RE films were headed anyway. Hollywood seems to be all in on every film must have strong women, while the guys have to be incompetent or megalomaniacs to make sure that the women look strong. It seems that they don't care if they lose money, as long as it keep the woke armies off Twitter. I mean seriously, just because you are a rookie cop, doesn't mean you are a complete idiot. "Der this is an armory? How come the shotgun doesn't work? Oh no shells. Duhhhh".
I only gave it five stars since Neal McDonough was the only thing worth salvaging from the trash.

@MPA2000 just asking here,, you do know the opposite of woke is asleep, right? And, you do know that no one takes offense to being recognized as being aware rather than a disciple who follows a proven liar, right?
Great transparency when you use a code word to let everyone know it's a movie with POC.. lol...

This was like watching a movie from Asylum Studios but with better upgraded CGI ... To make it brief this was bad so goddamn bad not even can we call it a resident evil prequel cause it has nothing to do with resident evil or racoon city or the first outbreak in the game ... You can just say it's like a movie playing a movie disguised as another movie ... Not even gonna talk about the cast or script or the so called humor or mmmm im an average girl with a cool attitude and a badass who can save the day -_- in the end the scene with the rockets launcher can describe the entire sh*ttiness fest of this movie.I rate it 3.5/10

It was good but; it's completely different then the game storyline. I think it would have did better as an tv series. When i got to the middle i was like oh man it's halfway over. But the last 20 mins was not the best part of the movie. I didn't like the ending. There was some really funny parts. The acting was good. The cops felt like average dudes (bros). It felt American as all hell lol. It's worth a look. If you're a hardcore fan of the series you may not look the new personalties everyone has. Their nothing like the game versions. I saw the movie as an mix of action & dark comdey. The books & games are scarier. But glass half full lol. You won't be bored. I like it

I fully expected to be saying that this was absolutely terrible. I saw the trailer and wasn't thrilled.
But, it wasn't half bad.
They basically mix the storylines from the first two games, then cut most of the content. Otherwise, it probably would have been 6 hours long. But, seriously, another hour wouldn't have hurt this film at all. So it's Resident Evil games 1 and 2 without Ada or Mr X, or the giant spiders or shark, or many other things. And it wouldn't be Hollywood if they didn't add in their own storyline to make things a bit unique. [SPOILER]
We still get the trucker from RE2RE eating a burger at the beginning and mowing down a zombie girl. [SPOILER] ...

Resident evil, with the greatest hero ever, are some of my favorite movies. This one isn't one of them. Origin story? Not even close. Good story line? Not even close. Acting? Not even close. Creatures? Way too formulaic.

This was not by any means a good movie. Every scene has been done; every creature done; every word done. Has Hollywood reached the limit of their innovation and is now stuck on a rinse/repeat cycle? Gawd, I hope not, but I'm not seeing much to disprove it. Three starts because I watched the entire movie.

not the greatest attempts at a Res Evil Prequel. Should have been a lot better over all. other than that, acting was good and they kinda tried to keep towards the games with this one, but just seemed very rushed towards the end. 3/5 for this one. Sorry Res Evil, love ya but this shoulda been better.

This was a throwback make up wise on how they used to present zombies..PALE AND BLOODY. Very well made but most of the male characters are weak and stupid needing some super woman to save them. I hate that. Knowing damn well if this was real life, it would not go this way. You also wouldn't say, "LET'S SPLIT UP" in a zombie situation, but no matter the movie they always say it. Overall it was okay. Not the worst..but definitely not the best. 7 out of 10

@anthonystar19 That depends on what you mean by different. Different from the previous movies, or different from the games?
Because the movies have always been based on the video games, and this attempted to stay pretty true to those.
The previous series of movies made up a character (Alice) who was never in any of the games, and did their own thing using the basic idea from the games.
While this isn't exactly like the games either, it's as close as anything has come so far.

This movie really had potential. It's too bad they tried to fit the first 2 games all into the same movie. There was just too much missing and you could tell it was rushed to fit it all into a single movie. The way they portrayed Leon really made me mad though. They made him out to be some wimpy noob and not the bad*ss he is in the games.

What in the world did they just call "Resident Evil" reboot... and then wait over 40 minutes for an actual plot to [partially] unfold? Huh? A ton of Easter eggs that make no sense because there is nothing that makes any sense. Talk about confounding the faithful of the gamer... the first by Paul Anderson is a masterpiece compared to this. This couldn't even be called coherent. It's a mess. There isn't anything else to say. There is nothing here for either the fans of the game or horror lovers. HORRIBLE and not worth commenting on. AVOID or prepare to fast forward through all of it. Shame on these film-makers.

Like almost all resident evil movies they used a strong women role.i love this for these movies because they always had one starting with Alice. Tho I felt as tho they were trying to replace Alice and that's impossible, good movie but they need to make the men less dumb. We are not this stupid

Why did they make this film. Some of it was like the game, but they missed loads out if they were going by the game. Actors was ok in this but come on if you are going to make a film like this, then play by the game. I would of thought it would have been 3 hours long, would of had time to show you properly how it should have gone. I loved playing the games and watching some of the of the Resident Films, but this one has fallen in my opinion. So I'm giving this a 4 star. There was a few good actors I like anyway.

Well, I loved it.
I always felt that Mila, although a very good actress, struggled with the Alice main character after the first 2 films.
This film, spread the action and dialogue more evenly among the ensemble and made it a more enjoyable watch.
The special effects were very good and I liked the previously absent humour which gave it a more human experience.
The director is very obviously a John Carpenter fan { but so am I } and the homages can be seen at various points in the movie.
For example, the countdown clock has been used on Precinct 13 and Prince of darkness.
The soundtrack was reminiscent of Carpenters films but without the obvious looping bass synth.
I’m giving it 8/10 because it’s not a PC/ Woke/ Box ticking experience but a very brave attempt to reboot a very good story.
I see a bright future for the director Johannes Roberts 🇬🇧 now he’s moved on from sharks and the horror genre if he continues in this vein.

I played the Resident Evil game in my Playstation one back in the 90s and this film was such a reminder of my hours and hours of trying of solving and specially by seeing the scene of the first zombie in the game shown in this awesome film it gave me chills and goosebumps, anyways this was such an awesome film and by that great ending it might be possible for a part 2 which I hope to watch in the near future if I'm still with the living...man, time goes fast!! smileysmileysmileysmileysmileysmiley

I enjoyed this movie for its entertainment value only. In my opinion, the storyline was like a group of Sci-fy channel guys were told "Do a remake of the first Resident Evil", "but Sci-fy channel style". That's how I was left feeling. But it was a fun movie overall.

Well known actors, though I think mot of them were a miscast. The dark atmosphere and pistols being useless were true to the game, can't say much about the others. From a movie perspective it wasn't that great either. The cuts didn't make it any more suspenseful or scary. Characters (especially the mains) didn't stand out making them unlikeable. Ending was unsatisfyingly rushed. CG was low budget. One time watch if bored, but there are better zombie movies out there.

So sad this is what we get for a RE movie after the past few fantastic games. The cast choices were questionable to start with just because these are established characters, but omg is the writing bad. All the men are complete retards and all the woman are the bestest ever at everything. Leon specifically, what a character assassination. Tries to take story beats from 1 and 2, but really needed to be much longer to cover that much well, but im glad it isn't so I didn't have to suffer though more of the travesty

After watching this and reviewing it, I felt like replaying the recent remakes of the games. And it occurred to me that they screwed up with this if they have intentions of doing a sequel to it that is somewhat true to the games.
In this movie, they basically crunch down the events of the first and second game, having it all take place on the same day. The games did that with the second and third ones. At least with the remakes. The problem is that the main character of the third game is in this one (Because she was in the first game also) and escapes the town with everyone as it's destroyed. So, she can't be in a sequel that takes place in the same city on the same night. Or after that, since they nuked the place.
Also, throwing Ada in just for a credits scene was cheap. Though it probably made some fans happy.
