Came here after re-watching Hannibal. Mads Mikkelsen has an interesting face. I can't quite seem to make anything of it except he's interesting to watch in action. I liked him best in Casino Royale. This movie? Err,not so good but better than you think. Very, very bloody. Just the way you like it psychopaths.
Incredibly violent movie but I am such a Mads Mikkelsen fan. This is the kind of movie I like to watch, one where the hero is very good at his job and one that 'comes to the rescue'. I liked the twist in this one, it fuelled the villain/hero's role and I like that. So many of today's films are flat and formulaic but not this one, not really. I highly recommend taking a peek at this one.
What a nice film I just watched, full of action, gory scenes, storyline well written and acting was superb, I liked how the film starts with that calm atmosphere and all of a sudden killing and very good shoot out scenes and the way the film evolves closer to the end that by the way totally unexpected and with the possibility of a part 2 film was amazing, and I also liked the twist at the end where maybe forgiveness took part on the girl and which is the reason for a sequel...oh well...enough said.
The title 'polar' tells us absolutely nothing about the movie.
The story has been done too many times before, and in this B-grade production it was not done well. The idea of a retiring hitman in a revenge-fantasy flick has possibilities and there was a bit of a twist at the end, but none of the characters were credible and the amount of graphic violence quite unnecessary.
6/10 and that's being generous.
This movie definitely held my interest. It was totally different from what I expected. I thought it would be an angsty shoot em up as per the norm, but there was quite a bit of humor thrown around in this film. I enjoy Mads Mikkelsen anytime I see him. The ending was a real surprise too.
enjoyed this movie to the max and as you know that means I enjoyed MADS to the max. I've seen hem in other movies and Hannable series on tv. I LOOK FORWARD TO MORE OF HIM !!
Let me start off first by saying Johnny Knoxville (whom I like) wasn't in it long enough, also[SPOILER]I hated when the dog got shot other than that I enjoyed this alot, just a mindless fun movie, I have only seen Mads in maybe 2 other movies, hope to see him in more, he gets a 10,lol...
Helllll to the yeah, I loved it. Had me hooked from beginning to end. Always mad for some Mads. Grrrr!!
This was pretty weird at times. 2.5 out of 5.
Just watched Polar. beyond believable !!!
A bit of an odd ride as it starts off as a silly action movie that doesn't take itself seriously, then gets dark and violent half way through. The end was a surprise to me, which I liked. One thing for sure, there is going to be big trouble when I tell John Wick what happened[SPOILER]to Rusty. My only real issue with the movie is that it ended without Duncan going after Porter for some SERIOUS revenge. I loved Richard Dreyfuss in that bit part.
Silly fun action. Laughed aloud to some of the absurdity of some scenes. I find Mads always a pleasure to watch. Lady from Vikings (Katheryn Winnick) was solid. A bit stiff with other actors acting and/or over acting. Wild violence shoot'em -ups, crazy fight scenes...entertaining. Beautiful background scenery, but don't know how they got mountains filming in Orno, Ontario?? Add more to the wildness of the film with the color schemes throughout. The ending was the best part of the flick.
Enjoyable and entertaining movie. I wish it would have continued I would have liked to see what came next. Worth the watch as far as I'm concerned. The young actress reminded me of a young Linda Ronstadt. youtu.be/BoitbfaVjH0
Cool ass movie. It's your typical retired assassin story, but done oh so very well. I enjoyed every minute of it. I liked what happened to big boy at the end. Epic.
Polar is a fun, stylish movie. Is it a masterpiece? No. Does it want to be a masterpiece? Probably not. I don't see why people can't judge it for what it is, an action-packed, violent, light movie. Do you want to spend a few hours entertained by ludicrous action, over the top assassins and weapons? Watch it! Are you appalled by violence and are looking for an absolute masterpiece with incredible depth and enlightening dialogues? Move on, this is not the movie for you. (nor does it want to be)
Definiately a worth watch. Its a great movie, surprisingly strong plot with solid action.Mads is awesome as always.
If you want a drama go watch Driving Miss Daisy. It's a comic book adaption and not to be taken serious. I recommend dark lager and Lagavulin while watching.
I also really enjoyed this movie at first the names across the screen was a bit of an off putting but all in all i enjoyed it and my other half even watched the last half as he got caught up in in too it has some humor lots of action, blood etc and a bit of booty for the boys.... I would recommend this. It reminded me of something Quentin Tarantino would do
I really enjoyed this movie, felt it was way better then John Wick, more realistic yet still has a lot of crazy scenes. You will like this movie a lot if your into good action scenes.
The most interesting aspect of this film is Mads Mikkelson.. I've only seen him in one film before, "Casino Royale", as a VERY nasty character (VILLAIN).. In this, he seems to be a 'hero'...A change which I can only HOPE will exploit previously unseen talents..
John Wick on steroids -- with ridiculous characters and situations thrown in for comedy. Don't expect too much from it and you won't be disappointed. 6/10
If you've seen any movie with the plot "world renowned hitman retires only for his employers to consider him a loose end", then you wont find anything new here.
Some of the direction taken with the acting is pretty damned bad. But it's got a sort of 80's action cheese to it that if you're a fan of, you'll appreciate here.
Just don't take this movie seriously, and you'll have a good time.
I give this a 6.0 out of 10 for Mads and nostalgia to the hitman/one-man-army style action of decades past. This genuinely feels like an Old Man Frank take on the Punisher; and I'm not angry about it. ;)
@quinngirl are you talking about Jason Bourne, Mission Impossible? no wait maybe its John Wick or the Equalizer either way this movie should be good as long as it's not too much of a cliche lml
@happygoluckykid Yes. All of the above. haha..
Cliche might be the wrong word; but it's very predictable.
This was hardcore Henry only with a bad story line, awful depressing scenery, irritating extras, bad acting, bad lines, poor graphics, and confused characters. Other than that I'd say it was AWFUL
@Tyrlarn THX!! Was wondering wheather to watch this or grab the newspaper go into the bathroom to take a dump. Chose the latter on your review. Seems to be more entertaining. May I suggest instead, `Extracurricular Activities`. Read my review. That`s a much better movie.
Tedious and not funny. Mikkelson's talent was wasted on this crapfest.
This movie was ok, I quite enjoyed UK comedian Matt Lucas as the over-the-top villain, but wanted to rip off Mads' horrible 70's moustache throughout.
Very bloody and gross, and small parts of it are in Russian, the Openload links have subtitles 8/10
Not as bad as some imply, and not as good as others do. Very graphic violence, average acting. So what if it borrows from other movies, it is still a new experience, and worth adding to my collection Decide for yourself
don't know what people are crying about, this is a decent movie, I recommend it,,,
Lot of good actors you will recognize.. action is good, well placed, and movie is well paced..
,I enjoy assassin movies,I enjoy Violent movies,I enjoy crime movies ,But this one was doozy just unbelievable farce and a too common story of a assassin retiring blah blah. Mads Mikkelsen is a Very good actor and why in the hell he went for this B grade crap he mustve needed the $$$.So many times I felt like turning it off.
netflix or any other service/channel/whatever might get lucky and produce something that could compare to a theatrical release, but i believe that will be a rare occurrence. these are like the old 'movies of the week' that the big three broadcast networks (cbs, nbc, abc) used to put on their channels, except with a 21st century advantage of technology, budget and actors willing to slum it away from the big screen if the price is right. comparing these smaller movies to anything off the big screen isn't going to work, because they will only disappoint.
as for Polar: Mads Mikkelson is better than this. Johnny Knoxville is wasted on this. the bad guys all looked and acted like walking selfie filters, every bit as vapid and annoying when they slowed down the gore-meter on occasion. nothing would have stopped me from watching it though, and anyone reading this is likely intent on watching it themselves. i hope you like shiny and gross.
A real mix of comments here. As many for as against. Guess I will dl for later. Thanks everyone.
@fortunate1 It is a good flick, not sure what they expected, has a nice flow to it, well known actors, sure you will enjoy it,,,
beautiful crazy good terrific movie. thats a special one
Dark AND humorous? It succeeds here and there (or I might just be partial because I have a fondness for it), good try. Mads is of course carrying this, the rest of the actors are well, in a different league... The neighbour has a somewhat wider spectrum? I couldn't say if much is borrowed from John Wick (some make that comparison), the concept of retiring hit-men is as old as the use of them. Many movies and books have done it long before all of this. That doesn't mean the writing/execution here isn't seemingly... lazy? It's a good point and I agree, with the over-stylised part too. Movie still managed to entertain me well enough, I think the moments of unexpected humour tipped it for me. I give it 6/10.
Very interesting film, pretty good all round acting, a good story that place it self well, not going to fast or slow. well worth watching more than once
Surprisingly good. Nudity, violence, blood decent acting...all the ingredients of a good action movie.
Ending credits in reverse was interesting.
Well, I liked the star, loved him in Hannibal.
The concept of retiring hitmen borrows heavily from John wick and the violence and action scenes are well done.
If I had to sum it up, I’d say the film is somehow less than the sum of its parts.
3.5/5 because I probably wouldn’t watch it again I guess.
Big Mads fan that expected garbage based on the current trend of oversaturated marginal quality content coming out of Netflix and wasn't disappointed. Was garbage but worse.
I liked it agree with most of comments.
I thought this was a good hunter vs hunted setting. This has 2 parts of a film that I dislike but were put into a small setup of a big next scene and that is sex and torture. 4/5
Too intentionally hyper stylised and too obvious in where it stole and borrowed all its ideas from...even Mads Mikkelsen couldn't save this one for me. Mads Mikkelsen was my main reason for watching this, but it's like he's in one film and these other hyper stylised wanna be super heroes are in another. Mads Mikkelsen is a class actor, the rest of the cast was playing house in fancy dress. I watched it. I wasn't impressed, I was annoyed at how intentionally this film was in trying to be hyper-stylised. I felt like it was talking down to me, like I wouldn't get the "John Wick" jokes unless they told each one about 3 different ways before expecting a "gee that's so clever" giggle. I see others liked it. I did not. I expected something really riveting, and even the fight scenes in this were sparce and unbelievably silly; I couldn't find them the least bit "gratuitous" because there was zero realism. I loved "Leon", I enjoyed the first "Equalizer" -- this film was nothing like those two films in the least. ... It is a hyper-sylised piss take on "John Wick". To me, a joke that lasts too long and takes itself too seriously. However, it is a film you have to see for yourself to decide. I, however, won't be holding my breath for "Part 2" and hope that Mads finds something more worthy of his talent in the future. Thanks a million uplink team for sharing the links. Read moreLess
@ btw, Leon is a god just like you. congrats! +1
@Onable LOL I just write a lot.
"Leon", however, is a brilliant film that shows a lot of talent and heart. It's one of my favourites.
@ mine as well. I've seen grown folks cry by the end (not me).
@Onable I cry every time.
It's just wonderful.
I will watch this a second time. A good mix between a Marvel type villains, dry humour and action.
And the casting really amazed me, very interesting selection. For a brief moment, I almost was expecting the lady in red was going to be Scarlett Johansson.
Isn't this just the same thing as John Wick? Retired Assassin gets back in the game because blah blah blah blah?
@storeboughtsouls The 'retired hitman/gunman who can't live in peace' trope is almost as old as cinema. Tons of westerns from the 40s and 50s with that plot.
@storeboughtsouls It's supposed to be a stylised piss take on that franchise.
yeah this is the sheeeeet!
Awesomeness at it's Finest
I really liked it. I'm looking forward to part two
Great movie yes it is ...
Wot an unusual entertaining action packed movie! Well worth a one time watch
dual story telling threaded wonderfully!, no chleche\stereotypical scenes, bloody , violent visually stunning and not committed to movie industry correctness\censorship against Violence
any Hardcore Tarantino fan would love the artistically done gory action, and finally the comic book fans will be happy with this movie, i guess this move will be remembered as an iconic action flick for a long time! solid 8.5\10!
Leon the Professional meets the Equalizer
This movie is a little hard to get through. The premise isn't hard, but the pace drags severely through the first hour. The second hour brightens up well, but still has some pacing problems. Loved the overwhelming firepower display of one particular scene, but the overall story feel threadbare and worn. It has set itself up for a sequel, but 're going to need a whole lot more firepower to get me back a second time.
Tried to watch but failed miserably! Not my kind of film.
