Slow burn, cool effects, for me relativly unknown but good actors
did it need to be 2hrs long? NOPE
@✴𝕊𝕦𝕚𝕤𝕖𝕟✴ Unknown actors to you maybe but quite famous otherwise. The male lead, Daniel Kaluuya was in the same director's debut movie Get Out. He was also in Sicario, Black Panther & Queen & Slim among others.
Here's Keke Palmer's movies: www.imdb.com/name/nm1551130/?ref...
Admittedly, I was lost in the 1st hour of this & had a hard time getting into it. It could have been my mindset though since I normally don't mind slow paced movies/shows. Usually if I'm impatient w/a movie, I've found I will really like it on 2nd watch.
The last hour is when it all started coming together & making sense. So hang in there if you're not feeling it right away. Peele really takes his time building this world & the characters to get you invested in the story. It's really worth being patient, although it left me w/more questions than answers, to be honest. It's definitely a unique & interesting take on the sci-fi genre, which is much needed in this day & age. I'll need to watch this again when a better (0py is available.
@ᚘ𝕺ƸᚰĦҜïᑻ⭍🌘 It's supposed to be funny cause the painting on the figurine is so poorly done. It looks like it has googly eyes. Guess it didn't translate well to an avatar lol. BTW, I'm a guy.
@augusts12 I've heard this from other reviewers - about the first hour with some having difficulty hearing the dialog etc it's way too long
@augusts12 actually, the comments about not understanding or hearing the dialog clearly were from critics who saw the film in the theatre!
@augusts12 I know - I was surprised when i heard it and then watched it for myself.. soundtrack issue
@Necroclysm I have to apologize I without a doubt read October 12 for digital release.
The chimp attack was horrifying, here is the real event the movie's character was obviously based on: "Travis the Menace" nymag.com/news/features/70830/
@ᚘ𝕺ƸᚰĦҜïᑻ⭍🌘 Just read that article. Absolutely terrifying. Very detailed in the background info of the owners. Sad they ignored the signals even after being warned.
@augusts12 Honestly, I am still freaked the F out. "let the right one in" just had to have chimps in it too. GD it. I have grown a legit fear from this. I think it's cause I remembered as a kid i had a neigbor with a chimp..and that's as far as i want to think about it right now...(it almost killed a little girl one day for no fvckn reason. they get jealous n sh*t at drop of a hat...ok im breathing heavy already fvk)
I really enjoyed this one. I'm loving Jordan Peele's films so far. He definitely has an original voice, something to say in each of his films and a creative way to say it. This film definitely had something to say about respecting nature otherwise it will literally devour you. The opening quote from the Hebrew bible was terrifying. Visually the movie is spectacular and the sound effects from "Jean Jacket" sounded like they came straight out of hell. Bravo. Next movie please Mr. Peele. 9/10
Finally I got to see this one. We waited for the good ones to appear. Thank you to all who add movies on here! Onto the review
Jordan peele nene disappoints. I'm in love with his mind. His movies are so unique so different than other horrors out there. He always has a stellar cast as well. I'm so glad he used Daniel K again. I've loved him since the series the fades which btw shouldn't have been canceled. I don't want to say too much about what happens in the film bc his movies are best when you go into not knowing. Loved it loved it loved it!

Yikes...20 min in and the sister (Keke Palmer) character is ruining the film, very unrealistic and as her brother would never put up with her obnoxious behaviour for more than a minute. Every time she is on screen just want to fast forward. Keke is a great actor, just a poorly constructed - there just to create conflict- character. Daniel Kaluuya deserves better.
@timleyes dang relax dude. What r u even talking about? That is some very heavy emotions for just seconds of interation with a fictional character, mind you.
take er easy bud.
Yo. Hella scary fool. I HATE the stupid XBets Jerks all throughout but it was still scary even with all that. Just wait for guud linx. Serious.
@ᚘ𝕺ƸᚰĦҜïᑻ⭍🌘 Don't call me a fool. It's derogatory & you're saying it for absolutely no reason. I said nothing derogatory to bring that on. If you do it again you'll be blocked.
@augusts12 What? I made a comment on the movie bud. It wasn't even a reply to ur post. No one was calling you any names,& I don't engage in such derogatory things on the internet. I hope your having a goodn' cause this movie really did make me think about a lot of stuff. I really meant that it was vicious and hits on something base about fear and predators and the uncontrollable wild nature of what something (more powerful & in a different mind space than humanity too) that is deeply threatening to you is in the end. And what we are when it comes down to it. Such thought provoking stuff from Peele I am so proud of dude! Keep it going bruh!
@ᚘ𝕺ƸᚰĦҜïᑻ⭍🌘 Ok. Sorry. Before user TimTeyes made his comment above my previous comment it seriously looked to me like your comment using 'fool' was connected to mine since it was right under it. I stand corrected. I guess I wasn't paying close enough attention.
Yes Peele's movies are very layered & have a lot of symbolism so they really get one to thinking. I saw a video w/the cast on youtube where they were reading fan theories of what the movie was about. Some of them were wild & others made a lot of sense. The cast didn't confirm any of them though since the movie hadn't officially released.
@augusts12 I getcha, it happens more than you would think just the way it looks, but ya. guess Peele never unfolds what or why about anything in his films. But I love this fans are too al over every little detail and alost ruin storylines with the immense obssesing. I like my storytellin to have some mystery to it. And ike art let it sit with and affect you however it does, each person should have their own journey.
What can I say, this was a really good popcorn movie. I will not give up plot info. But, I will say give this movie a watch. The story line is a rather interesting one. I'll even go out there and say it was like out of the Mist movie. That's as far as I go. Made me want to see the Blu Ray when out. Enjoy.
@JoninTacoma I would not agree that it's a 'popcorn movie' which implies to me that it's good for a general audience. It's far from a typical horror movie & from the trailer it made it seem it was fast paced (which Hollywood does way too often), which this is not. The general public is not patient like us avid movie fans. Like I said in my review, this takes an hour to really get going with seemingly unrelated storylines until that last hour. So, maybe a 'popcorn movie' for you but not for the general public. Notice the rating here on the site which is around a 6 which is pretty low for such a quality movie. The rating was a 4.7 before I gave it my 10 rating. Crazy, but Peele is known to make pretty complex, layered movies which some get but some don't. Cheers!
@augusts12 they said that popcorn thing in a bunch of reviews trying to figure the ovie out quickly w/ a fast article for the movies release..don't pay it nada mind ...
I watched this last night. I don't know but I wasn't all that impressed. Perhaps I was expecting too much? The acting was fine. There were a couple of good twists but it just didn't live up to a alien invasion type movie for me. I found it taking from other alien movies such as signs and Close Encounters of the third kind. Not really obvious in copying those movies but I could help but think in those terms while I was watching it. It was ok for a one time watch. 3/5
Well worth the watch. Another gem from the creative mind of Jorndon. I won't ramble on this was a really good movie and you need to see it. 9/10
I imagine it's harder to come up with something new in regards to alien movies nowadays. But Jordan Peele delivered, as he always does.
Yep. Yep. Yep! I'm glad I waited for a good copy.Excellent movie I will watch again as there are things to look for now. I loved the story, [SPOILER] look forward to Jordan Peele's next work. Yep!
Peele is again using metaphor, don't look up or the police man will beat you more! Another terrible message to young people who could very easily avoid any violent interactions with police if they obeyed the law in the first place. :( Social unrest is another tactic to divide our nation.
Very slow build, to me a useless backstory that gets in the way of the
rest of the movie. Really good once it gets going. The sister character is
awful and annoying, enough to make you want to skip her entirely. Ending is
just and ending, nothing original. Great idea, good effects, just not presented
and arranged well enough to be great.
This had a pretty unique story that I appreciated. The first 3/4 of the movie had me pretty sucked in. I have no idea how the monkey fit into the rest of the story. Overall worth a watch i think.
Apart fron the first 40 minutes being a Yawn fest, this film grew on me as it moved on. Interesting concept for a Sci Fi movie regarding UFO's and Alieans. The sister was hard to put up with at first, but then her character settled down a bit. The thing with this movie is the tension generated by the way it is put together 6.5/10
For those that rated 10/10, please calm down. There is no way this movie is as good as the greatest movies ever made.
It is pretty GREAT, though.
I compared it to a cross between an M. Night Shyamalan movie and a Quentin Tarantino movie.
It is Looong. I believe the run time is needed for suspension of disbelief.
The western town attraction, I could have sworn was one I remember going to in Arizona, as a child. I was a little sad to find it was built on a Universal Studios lot.
It comes down to this perfect picture, one we would all want to capture. We all want to know. Some of us already believe and the military has shown footage. But, we are NEVER given full confirmation. Ever.
It would be so fulfilling to have.
Daniel Kaluuya, Keke Palmer, Brandon Perea. Keke Palmer was an absolute joy. FANTASTIC part- though not a lot of screen time- played by Steven Yeun (The Walking Dead).
7.5/10
An okay movie with bad characters, okay cinematography, and cool visuals. Sadly the characters are vapid, unconvincing, and hollow the script is casually drawn out way longer than it should be, and the "monster" shows its entire hand in the first hour, which leaves the rest of the movie to drag out the conclusion for too long.
I did like this movie. It is decently good if you can endure the first 56 minutes. Then it starts rolling and explicitly delves into it rather than vaguely touching the subject. If I were making this movie, I would probably visualize a similar [SPOILER] .. I'd watch it again.
My friend and I went to the cinema to watch Nope and I fell asleep 3 times. Loved ‘Get Out’ and ‘Us’ but ‘Nope’ was not for me.
This is a YEAH for me. It's well written, suspensful and well executed. That's it.
One fun movie. Well written, well acted, well directed, and well done. It's not an action flick, but deals more with the human element, and I found that quite satisfying.
Not of my taste, I rejected around 17th minute. I hope others find it more interesting than me. 5/10
Yep, it didn't need to be that long of a movie.
Other than that I thought it was a well-made and directed movie.
The acting, directing, and cinematography all was good enough.
It is getting 8/10 from me. I would have given it ten if the movie wasn't that long.
It is a slow burn. If you like UFO movies or slow burn movies you should check this out.

NOPE - SciFi by Jordan Peele
Aug 2022
Nope is the latest SciFi flik by independent writer/director & actor Jorden Peele that bought us the scifi horror film US. (in case you haven't seen it - you might want to check it out.) NOPE is low budget BUT good content and the film has done pretty well in its commercial release, largely on word of mouth. It will make money and that's a good thing guaranteeing future projects. (not easy to be financially successful in the Indie market) I believe it grossed over $44 million in 1 or 2 weeks / national release. Pretty good.
The film is set on a small isolated horse ranch somewhere in the desert area of California. (in the film there is a reference to Dulce NM, well known for UFOs and alleged underground Alien bases) This small ranch is experiencing some mighty strange paranormal phenomena that are progressively getting worse by the day and turning LETHAL.
Small cast, (no doubt shot during covid and Michael Wincott adds an interesting touch to the film as an eccentric filmmaker that takes an interest in the ranch's high strangeness.
