I remember the first time i saw this when VCRs were new and the girl i was with was ten years older than me and 100xs sneakier than i ever imagine a woman could be. this movie was a huge trigger. good for a cathartic therapeutic rant!
Have`nt seen this in years!! One recommendation. Read the book first!! It`s not long and goes in much Deeper into the scenarios of the movie. A Very Tragic tale of a Very mixed up woman in the sexual degradation of the big city. She lives two lives. One the facade of a teacher of deaf children. The other a Wild side of clubs, sex, and some pretty weird characters. One played by a young Richard Gere; before he got friendly with toilet paper tubes and gerbils. He plays the King of `A-Holes`, and really screws up her life. A Real Classic!! First Class acting from some Award Winning Stars!! Diane Shines in this!! Not only in her Acting, but also in her Beauty!! 5/5.
Oh man, [SPOILER]I did not see that ending coming at all, completely out of left field. In retrospect, I guess it's really not that surprising but WOW, it shocked the hell outta me! I'd never even heard of this movie and wouldn't have ever watched it if it weren't for the comments. It was great seeing these actors in their youth. I really loved Richard Gere's character. That scene with the glow in the dark knife lol. A really good flick I would recommend to anyone. A cautionary tale I would say. A lot of crazies in the world, you can't avoid all of them, unfortunately. 9/10
All I can say is WOW. A film from 1977 that still looks great and has scenes in it that are actually more risqué than scenes today... as well as a conclusion that will blow you away. The whole film was superbly written and every detail conveyed to perfection by a very young Diane Keaton. Also look for a very young Richard Gere and Tom Berenger. Like Bondojoe (the review below this one), I had seen it once before and watched it again last night wondering how it would hold up. WOW. I'd nearly give it a 10/10...it's that good. Thank you to all the linkers who shared off site host links here for us to use. :)
@ Looks like you `WOWED` them again!!! Well, God`s can do that.
@PAUL58 I guess she won't be anymore though. She's left the site.
@rickgrimesrocks Yes sadly, and through no fault of her own, it is sad...
@ Thank you for your comment. I would never have watched this movie if I hadn't read it. Great flick!
@rickgrimesrocks I'm really happy you like it that much. :)... It's difficult to find films of this caliber!
@ Thank you, I randomly saw your review when it was postedand watched this immediately.. I loved it, was absolutely enthralled. Great movie.
@Lalalajameson Oh, cool! I'm so happy that I wrote something then.
It is a very spectacular film that has held up in the test of time...I don't think they could make a film like this today.
@ I know it’s cliche but the entire time I was thinking, films like this don’t get made anymore. I wish they still made films like this though. I was riveted the entire 2 hours and that’s saying a lot considering attention spans these days 😂
Do you have any recommendations for films that are similar by chance? Thanks again for reviewing this one
@Lalalajameson Hmmm. Well you're probably aware of the well known "similarly" themed films like "Fatal Attraction"? For me, I'd also say "Unfaithful" and "Final Analysis" are good. Though now that I've seen LFMG again, none of them pack the powerful punch this one did, in my opinion.
Hope that's of some use to you. :)
Diane Keaton plays a woman that is a very good school teacher by day, and a barfly by night. But alcohol isn't her drug of choice, sex is. This is a very interesting movie for a couple of reasons. The things that she does in this movie, her apparent promiscuity in this 1978 film was considered unusual for women at the time. Most women didn't seek out men, and seduce them. Or if they did, they weren't talking about it. They weren't supposed to be the aggressors. Well, as the old cigarette commercial used to say " You've come a long way, Baby!" Is that a good thing? Is casual sex something to be desired, and proud of? That's up to the individual. In this movie, it leads to unfortunate results. I remember really liking this movie at the time. I'm going to watch it again, and see how I feel about it now. Maybe I've changed a lot too. We'll see. Subjectively...7/10
@bondojoe Well? You never got back to share how you feel about it? :)
@ Still a great film...with unfortunate results. She could have used a little more discrimination in her choices...but you can't spot every crazy! Great acting by Keaton! Tuesday Weld has always been a favorite. She never got the meaty roles she deserved. Superb, underrated actress. In retrospect ...9/10
@bondojoe Yep. It's a powerful film. Completely underrated.
@ I remember it being considered scandalous when it was released. naturally...I HAD to see it!
@bondojoe I can completely see that, and honestly feel it still is more graphic than films of today, though this film uses that aspect to its advantage in telling the overall story and not just because they "can".
